Cher Jokes About Her “Ridiculous” Relationship with Boyfriend Forty Years Her Junior

Cher admitted she understands the confusion surrounding her new relationship with boyfriend Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, a man forty years her junior, but she also doesn’t care what anybody else thinks.

The music legend opened up about this new love in her life during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday, confessing, “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great.” She went on to add that she’s never been one to “give men” praise “they don’t deserve,” but when it comes to Edwards she can’t help but gush about how “fabulous,” “very kind,” “very smart,” “very talented,” and “really funny” he is. Plus, she added, “I think he’s quite handsome.” Cher added, “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would’ve never had a date. Because older men just didn’t like me all that much, do you know what I mean? I have had a couple of boyfriends that were hovering around my age, but they just didn’t like me for some reason. Maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, ok?”

The May-December duo first went public with their relationship in early November, holding hands as they entered the West Hollywood celebrity hangout Craig’s where they met up for dinner with rapper Tyga. That same evening, Edwards was also spotted kissing the singer’s hand as they waited in the car. The following day the singer responded to a tweet that said, “Someone’s got a new boyfriendddd,” with “YESSSSS.” And that weekend, she tweeted out a screenshot of the music producer, writing, “Alexander” alongside it with a red heart emoji. When asked by a fan, “IS THIS YOUR NEW MAN!?,” she replied with just a smiling emoji surrounded by hearts. She then went on to explain that they met during Paris Fashion Week and while Edwards has yet to meet her best friend, Paulette Howell, he has already met everyone else in her family. One fan expressed their concern regarding A.E.’s intentions towards her, but Cher replied, “As we All Know…I WASNT BORN YESTERDAY, & What I Know For Sure…There Are No Guarantees. Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance.I’ve Always Taken Chances…It’s WHO I Am.” And when another follower said, “He better be treating you like the queen you are!,” she assured them, “LIKE A 👑.”

Edwards previously dated Amber Rose with whom he shares a 3-year-old son named Slash, but the pair broke up in the summer of 2021 after three years of dating when the model caught him cheating on her with several different women. The producer later confessed to being unfaithful in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, admitting that he “got caught” and Rose had “just had enough, obviously.” Cher was previously married to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975 and Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979. She and Bono had one child together, Chaz, 53, and she and Allman also had a son named Elijah, who is now 46.
