Christine McVie, Longtime Band Member of Fleetwood Mac, Has Died at 79

Christine McVie, longtime Fleetwood Mac band member and the woman behind some of the band’s biggest hits, died on Wednesday following a short illness, according to her family. She was 79. 

A statement posted to Facebook on behalf of her family said, “We would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally.”

A singer-songwriter, McVie wrote several of the band’s biggest hits, including “Over My Head,” “Don’t Stop,” and “You Make Loving Fun.” Fleetwood Mac also released a statement on Twitter, saying:

She was born Christine Perfect, and married Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie in 1968, two years before she joined the group (they were divorced in 1976). McVie left the band in 1998 and returned in 2014, in time for the On With the Show tour.
