Comcast, an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate, is down across the US, leaving tens of thousands of customers without internet access.

More than half of the company’s users report a total blackout, while the rest are unable to use landline internet or email.

The crash appears to have started around 8:12am ET and is hitting costumers along the west coast and mid-west and some reports are surfacing on the east coast.

Comcast, which owns the popular Xfinity internet, phone and television service, has yet to reveal what is causing the outage or when issues will be fixed.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Comcast for more information.

DownDetector, a website that monitors online outages, shows more  than 55,000 Americans are without service – and just as many are starting their workday.

Although the outage is blanketing the entire US, the map on DownDetector shows San Francisco as being hit the hardest.

Other locations include Los Angeles, Chicago, parts of New Jersey and other locations in the mid-west.

Comcast Xfinity was reported to be down for thousands of Bay Area customers Monday night that carried over into the next day.

This region includes major cities like San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and Fremont.

According to Oakland News Now, the outage stems from a major storm that hit the region that brought intense winds at speeds of more than 40 miles per hour, which may have impact Comcast Xfinity service.

Many users in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey are also reporting outages, along with those in the Chicago area.

Xfinity’s own outage tracker is currently down, displaying the error message: ‘We are experiencing abnormal traffic to our network or… the service or servers on it are not currently available.’

The company is also redirecting users to its status page, where local outages are displayed.

It also includes tips, including restarting the modem and cable boxes, as well as ensuring they are plugged in, to try and make the connection work.

However, many users report being unable to access the website due to their internet being down.

As of November 2019, Comcast was the second largest pay TV provider in the US with 20.4 million users.
