Constance Wu Is Pregnant With Her Second Child

Constance Wu is pregnant.

The actor confirmed that she is expecting her second child with her boyfriend, musician and Man Man frontman Ryan Kattner. On Tuesday, she posted a photo to her Instagram Stories of herself pointing to her growing belly, captioning the image, “Bun in the oven. Filipinese baby #2 coming soon,” with a red heart emoji. This announcement comes a little over a week after the Crazy Rich Asian star was spotted walking around a Los Angeles park with a very noticeable baby bump. Wu took a very different approach to revealing this pregnancy than she did her first, which she kept completely secret. In December 2020, E! News broke the news that she and Kattner had welcome a baby girl together with a source telling the outlet, “They are doing great, and they’re so excited and happy.”

Wu has kept any details about her daughter extremely private, not even publicly revealing her name. However, in 2021, she did share an unusual detail about her first born during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “Her butt is the color blue. There’s this thing, I had never heard of it before, but it’s called a Mongolian spot,” she explained. “Apparently, it happens in a lot of Asian babies, and my boyfriend and I are both Asian. And it’s where your butt is blue for like the first two years of your life, and then it just goes away.”

Last July, she also confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that she found returning to work to be particularly challenging after becoming a new mom, but thankfully her co-star Chris Pratt helped her through it. “My first day on set was hard. I missed my baby,” she said. “It was the hardest day to stay at work because it was so emotional, something so many moms go through on their first day back at work.” However, the actor found a friend in Pratt who, “has another newborn now, but around the same time back then, [his wife] Katherine [Schwarzenegger] and I had our babies around the same time. Talk about someone who really understood what I was going through—Chris was so supportive and kind and caring on set. I’m really fortunate to have had him as my partner.”

And now that she’s fully embraced returning to the spotlight after this parenting hiatus, Wu said that being a mom has not only made her more thoughtful about the types of roles she takes on, but also how she treasures the small, every day things. She explained, “I actually feel like I’m more myself than I’ve ever been because [motherhood] really makes you enjoy the present moment rather than always hustling to be someone or get somewhere or do something. You get to enjoy your daughter trying a strawberry for the first time and truly it’s beautiful.”
