Gigi Hadid asks for ‘privacy’ after word she and Zayn Malik split following a fight with her mom

Gigi Hadid has broken her silence after it was reported she’s split from her boyfriend Zayn Malik, following her mother Yolanda’s accusations that he struck her.

In a statement released on Thursday, a representative for the model, 26, told E! News: ‘Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.’

It comes after it was reported by People Magazine that she and Zayn, 28, are no longer dating, with a source saying: ‘They are not together right now. They are both good parents though.’

On Thursday it was reported that Yolanda, 57, is considering filing a police report after claiming that Zayn struck her during an altercation, but singer has since denied her accusations, stating their exchange was simply ‘harsh words.’

The source added: ‘They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild.’ 

Zayn and Gigi, who have dated on and off since 2015, welcomed their only child in September 2020. Hadid had confirmed her pregnancy in the spring of that year. 

Malik alluded to his split from Gigi when he shared a statement to Twitter on Thursday responding to Yolanda’s claims that he hit her.  

In his statement, the former One Direction star said that the ‘private matter’ being made public has jeopardised the ‘safe space’ in which he and Gigi ‘co-parent’ their daughter, with his language suggesting they are no longer together.

According to TMZ, Yolanda claimed she was ‘struck’ by Zayn during an altercation at ‘some point last week,’ with the former Real Housewives star reportedly considering a filing a police report. As of Thursday, October 28, nothing has been seen on file.

No further details have been provided in regards to what may have triggered the alleged scuffle between the two. 

But Zayn has claimed the incident involved nothing more than an exchange of ‘harsh words’ and took place ‘several weeks ago’ at Gigi’s home.

Appearing to not take sides, a representative for Gigi told E! News that the runway star ‘is solely focused on the best for Khai’ and that ‘she asks for privacy during this time.’ 

Malik refrained from naming Yolanda in his lengthy Twitter post and, instead, referred to her as ‘a family member of my partner’s’ as he expressed concern for how the public allegations may affect Khai and her environment going forward.

In a further statement released to TMZ. saying firmly denied Yolanda’s accusations, and stated he hopes the reality star will ‘reconsider her false allegations.’

He said: ‘I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.’

In his original Twitter statement, published minutes after Yolanda’s accusations surfaced, Zayn described himself as a ‘private person’ and expressed obvious dismay over ‘private family matters’ being ‘thrown on the world stage.’

He wrote: ‘As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private safe for my daughter to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart.

‘In an effort to protect that space for her I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.

‘This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press.

He added: ‘I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she needs.’

The British born singer has had a string of violent outbursts in the past, but none involving Hadid family members until this alleged incident.

In June, Zayn was involved in a shirtless confrontation outside of a bar in the East Village neighborhood of New York City.

A rowdy bar patron tried to pick a fight with him and hurled profanity at Zayn as he smoked a cigarette outside near the Amsterdam Billiards Club.

‘Who the f**k said anything to you?’ Zayn fired back as the man lunged at him, but the confrontation reportedly never turned physical, and police were not involved.

In 2017 Zayn also lashed out at his social media followers after they claimed he was being ignorant, in the wake of his decision to defend Gigi over accusations of racism.

The former One Direction star was furious at being accused of not understanding what constitutes racism – when he has been a victim of racial discrimination himself in the past due to his Asian heritage.

He raged: ‘People’s nerve to call me ignorant, when any chance they get I’m a terrorist!! to be a racist goes against my very existence..’

A source told Us Weekly in November 2015 that while they weren’t ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’ yet, they were definitely into each other.

2016 

Months later, Gigi was spotted wearing a Z necklace on her way to Paris Fashion Week as she flashed a photo of Zayn as her phone background.

Malik however denied any romance rumors during an appearance on the Beats 1 radio show and insisted the pare were just ‘good friends.’

His debut as a solo artist took a sexy turn with the video release for his first single, Pillowtalk, starring none other than Gigi. The steamy visuals were followed by a flirty online exchange, leading many to believe that their friendship was anything but platonic.

Despite remaining out of the public eye due to various lockdowns from COVID-19, Gigi revealed she was pregnant on a virtual appearance of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. 

‘Obviously, we wish we could have announced it on our own terms,’ Hadid said. ‘We’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support.’ 

Gigi delivered Khai during a home birth in Pennsylvania in mid-September with Zayn, her mother, sister Bella, a mid-wife and the mid-wife’s assistant also on hand to help out.
