DC Studios hasn’t scrapped the Green Lantern series for HBO Max, according to James Gunn.

This morning, DC Studios co-head James Gunn cleared up rumors about the Green Lantern series revolving around John Stewart. Gunn took to his official Twitter page to shut down a report claiming that HBO Max project has been canceled following the recent DC Universe shakeup at Warner Bros. Discovery.

The Green Lantern series was originally expected to revolve around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott but is now being retooled to focus on John Stewart. Seth Grahame-Smith left his post as writer and showrunner as part of the creative overhaul.

Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine were set to star in Seth Grahame-Smith’s version of the Green Lantern series but the actors are no longer attached to the projects. For now, Green Lantern has a script-to-series commitment but not official production start date.

The Green Lantern changes came after James Gunn and Peter Safran’s hiring as the new heads of DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery. Gunn and Safran were named co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, which has replaced the DC Films division at the studio. The duo started their jobs on November 1st.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
