‘He was the light’: Wife’s emotional tribute to Ellen DJ tWitch at celebration of life service

Two months on from his tragic death, The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘s resident DJ Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss has been honoured in an emotional celebration of life service in Los Angeles.

Boss’ wife Allison Holker Boss and their three children welcomed his friends and loved ones at the service in Los Angeles overnight, with the event understood to have been full of prayer, food, dance and memories.

“He was the light. He chose love, grace and kindness. And he deserves to be celebrated,” Holker Boss said to guests at the event per People as she stood side-by-side with her 14-year-old daughter, Weslie.

Boss’ friend and mentor Ellen DeGeneres, comedians Loni Love and Wayne Brady, plus Derek Hough, Wade Robson, AJ McLean, Robin Antin and several So You Think You Can Dance and The Ellen DeGeneres Show cast and crew members were in attendance.

DeGeneres, 65, is also reported to have said a few words in Boss’ honour. Meanwhile, Debbie Allen introduced a video tribute, as well as Jeff Thacker, who was the officiant at Boss and Holker Boss’ 2013 nuptials.

Country music star Mickey Guyton and Honey, I’m Good singer Andy Grammer performed for guests.

It’s reported that guests were given a “Move with Kindness” wristband and invited to donate to the organisation, which was created on behalf of Holker Boss and her children – Weslie, 14, Maddox, six, and Zaia, three – to support mental health initiatives in Boss’ memory.

On December 13, 2022, Boss died by suicide aged 40. In her statement confirming her husband’s passing, 34-year-old Holker Boss described Boss as someone who “lit up every room he stepped into.”

“He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans,” Holker Boss said.

”To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she added.

“I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.

“Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

Tributes flowed for Boss in the wake of his death, with DeGeneres sharing a tearful video message two weeks after his passing.

“Hey everybody. I just wanted to say the past 11 days have been really tough for everyone,” DeGeneres said in a video shared to her social media accounts in December.

“Everyone is in pain and trying to make sense of it, and we’ll never make sense of it.”
