Henry Cavill’s Superman & Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Cut From ‘The Flash’

Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are no longer appearing opposite Ezra Miller in The Flash.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Henry Cavill’s Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman have been cut from The Flash. The two heroes had cameos in the movie, which are being deleted as a result of the DC Universe shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Henry Cavill is no longer attached to the role of Superman as DC Studios is looking to cast a younger actor for the character’s next cinematic solo outing. Warner Bros. Discovery tapped Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write a treatment for a Man of Steel sequel, which was scrapped after James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios hiring. Its plot involved Brainiac.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman 3 is said to be dead in the water, at least in its current state. It’s unclear if Gal Gadot is still involved with the DC Universe, as Aquaman star Jason Momoa has also met with the new DC Studios chiefs about playing a different comic book character.

Henry Cavill Releases Statement After Superman Exit

Warner Bros. recently moved up the release of The Flash to June 16, 2023. The movie is now hitting theaters one week after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and two weeks before Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It’s one of the final DC Comics movies arriving before James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU plans become a reality.

A recent report revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, Ezra Miller has been making headlines over a string of arrests and criminal charges. The actor is seeking treatment for mental health issues.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
