During an appearance on the Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson podcast, Ice Cube revealed what the fight with the studios entailed.

Ice Cube claims that Warner Bros. was purposely stalling a fourth film, Last Friday, which was confirmed in 2020, and even more were planned, but now are on the back burner.

“I don’t know. Warner Brothers is weird right now. I don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know what they’re doing,” he said. “We’d love to have [the rights] back. I think it’s going to be close to a time when we can get it back. So we’ll either wait for that time, or we’ll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie.”

Ice Cube was then asked about purchasing the rights back from Warner Bros., which isn’t something he’s willing to do.

“I ain’t putting sh** up for it. F*** no,” Ice Cube said. “They need to give it to me, and they’re going make money. I’m not [going] to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid. They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money and make the fans happy, and people will have a good time with the series. We can do a lot with it.”

Ice Cube did write two more scripts for additional movies, but said that the studio rejected one because “the timing wasn’t right” and another “was in development hell.”

“They just kept giving you note after note after note, never giving you the green light,” he said.

There have been three movies in the franchise: 1995′s Friday, 2000′s Next Friday and 2022′s Friday After Next.

Just recently, Ice Cube made headlines over losing a role and massive paycheck because he wouldn’t get the COVID-19 vaccine.
