Inside the ‘Duck sauce killer’s hoarder apartment filled to the ceiling with black bags & boxes

The notorious ‘duck sauce killer’ filled his apartment with hundreds of boxes, trash bags and documents in his hoarder home, new court documents reveal.

Glenn Hirsch, 51, from Jamaica, in Queens, killed himself earlier this month ahead of a court hearing appearance after being bailed out of jail on a $500,000 bond.

He was accused of murdering Zhiwen Yan, a father-of-three, who he allegedly shot in the chest while Yan was fulfilling deliveries for a Chinese restaurant on his scooter in Forest Hills.

Hirsch, who was believed to have had several run ins with the restaurant before, is accused of shooting Yan before fleeing the scene on April 30.

New pictures submitted to the court show cardboard boxes piled to the ceiling in his small apartment, where he lived alone.

Entire rooms were filled with trash bags, plastic boxes of documents, old newspapers, CD’s and a globe

Sources previously claimed that his entire refrigerator was packed with sweet and sour duck sauce, with the rest of the apartment being completely filled with other junk.

Before his death, his wife Dorothy, 62, was also arrested because police found weapons wrapped in aluminum foil stashed inside a closet in her apartment in New York City.

In a letter to the court today her attorney Mark Bederow, for Bederow Law, claims that the new photos of Hirsch’s apartment prove that his wife would have known nothing about the eight firearms in her home.

He claims that Hirsch’s ‘unique manner of hoarding’ in his own home is identical to the way the guns were stored in Dorothy’s apartment.

The court document read: ‘These photographs prove that – just as he stored his belonging in his closed at Dorothy’s apartment – Glenn hoarded his possessions in large black trash bags and cardboard boxes, which he then heaped on top of each other.

‘Fundamental fairness requires that you make the grand jury aware of evidence that Glenn stored his possession in the exact manner the firearms were discovered in the closet he maintained at Dorothy’s apartment.

‘Glenn’s unique manner of hoarding and his exclusive used of a closet he had direct access to is critical to the ultimate question before the grand jury.

‘Whether Dorothy knowingly possessed several firearms wrapped in tinfoil and plastic which were then placed inside large black garbage bags and large cardboard boxes messily piled on top of each other in a closet containing Glenn’s possessions.’

Hirsch also attempted to exonerate his wife in a suicide note, claiming that the weapons belonged to him.

He sent the note to his lawyers, prosecutors and those involved in the case in the lengthy note which was also left in his apartment by cops who discovered him.

He feared that he would be returned to prison over further weapons charges ahead of Friday’s hearing, writing that he didn’t want to sit in a cell for years or fight the charges from behind bars.

His ‘dying declaration’, which was partially submitted to the court, read: I want to take full responsibility for the eight guns recovered from a closet in Dorothy’s apartment.

Dorothy Hirsch was charged with weapons offenses

A lawyer for Dorothy Hirsch claims that her husband’s ‘unique’ hoarding style should prove that she did not have any knowledge the guns were in her property

‘I acquired these firearms many years ago and they remained undisturbed in an outside storage facility shared with previous roommates.

‘However a couple of years ago when my wife purchased her new cooperative apartment.

‘I decided to close the storage unit. It was at that time I moved those items into my wife’s apartment and placed them inside a hallway storage closet along with numerous other unopened bags and boxes…

‘She had absolutely no part in obtaining the firearms nor did she have any knowledge they were inside of her residence.’

Dorothy’s attorney says it is only fair that the charges are now dropped.

He said Dorothy, who works as a registered nurse, hasn’t lived with her husband, Glenn Hirsch, for years.

Speaking to DailyMail.com Mark Bederow previously said: ‘In his suicide note he makes reference to his wife’s innocence.

‘The point is that it is ridiculous that Dorothy was being prosecuted in the first place for these firearms offences, given that they are glens.

‘At the time he wrote this, he was facing a murder indictment. To continue the prosecution against her now, in light of his suicide, his apparent possession of another firearm in his apartment, and his remarkable confession that the guns were his, and that Dorothy had no involvement whatsoever.

‘He completely exonerates her, and details why she is innocent. To continue a prosecution against her in these circumstances is unconscionable. He explains in his note why the guns were there, and why she let him keep them there.

‘She was being a nice person, allowing him to keep his things there. She wasn’t going to go through, no sane person is going to go through the boxes of crap to see what is there.’

During the bust authorities seized eight handguns and ammunition from Hirsch’s Briarwood home, officials said.

Police records show the couple live in separate homes with Glenn living in nearby Jamaica.

The District Attorney’s office say in documents that they acknowledge that her husband had access to her apartment.

The guns were discovered in boxes and garbage bags amongst Hirsch’s other belonging in a closet used by him.

Police say that Hirsch, who is believed to have been driving an older model of a Lexus RX3 SV at the time, briefly exchange words at a traffic light before Yan was shot near 108th Street and 67th Drive.

At Hirsch’s Briarwood home, cops discovered his refrigerator packed with sweet and sour duck sauce.

‘His whole refrigerator was filled with duck sauce,’ a police source told the New York Daily News. ‘And other condiments.’

‘He’s a hoarder. And when you open the refrigerator, it’s like, condiments – there’s duck sauce, soy sauce, ketchup.’

The source suggested the piles of condiments at his apartment on 141st Street were all a part of what was going on in Hirsch’s brain that may have lead him to kill.

‘I guess in some pathology people like that take that stuff very seriously – you didn’t give him enough duck sauce,’ they said.

In a statement Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said: ‘The loss of a human life is always tragic.

‘Obviously, we would have preferred to try Mr. Glenn Hirsch for the calculated murder of Mr. Zhiwen Yan in a court of law, but this is no longer an option.

‘We once again express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Zhiwen Yan, who continue to grieve his tragic and senseless loss.’
