Jane Fonda Reveals Her Cancer Is in Remission

Three months after she first shared her cancer diagnosis with the public, Jane Fonda announced this week that her B-cell non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is in remission.

The actor shared the happy news on Instagram on Thursday alongside a photo of herself at one of her Fire Drill Fridays climate rallies held this week in Washington, DC. She captioned the post, “Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo.” She continued, “I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news.” Fonda went on to reveal that despite going through some “rough” final chemo sessions over the last two weeks that made “it hard to accomplish much of anything, the effects wore off just as I went to D.C. for the first live, in-person Fire Drill Fridays rally.”

As she was in much better spirits, the Grace & Frankie star explained that she also had time for a little activism after the rally, doing some lobbying and speaking twice at the Democracy Alliance in an attempt to try and stop Senator Joe Manchin’s deal, which she said, “climate activists call the Dirty Deal.” Fonda elaborated, “This deal, called ‘permitting reform,’ seeks to fast track fossil fuel projects, does great harm to bedrock environmental protections and curtails the public‘s ability to have input, basically throwing marginalized communities disproportionately burdened by fossil fuel pollution under the bus.”

Fonda first shared the news of her diagnosis on Instagram in September and then, a few days later, documented her experience with the illness thus far in a blog post on her website, reassuring fans that she felt “stronger” than she had in years. The actor began by thanking her followers for “all the expressions of love and support” since the announcement, adding that she had “been deeply moved and uplifted.” She went on to explain that despite battling the disease twice before, she had been assured by her doctors that “this is a very treatable cancer and much progress has been made with the medicines patients are given. Since last week, so many people have written to me or posted that they have had this type of cancer and have been cancer-free for many decades. Well, I’ll soon be 85 so I won’t have to worry about ‘many decades.’ One will do just fine.”
