Jenna Bush Hager Explains Why She Didn’t Have Her Kids Write Wish Lists to Santa Claus This Year

Jenna Bush Hager is trying to teach her kids a valuable lesson this Christmas.

Earlier this week on Today with Hoda & Jenna, Jenna, 41, and her co-host Hoda Kotb had a conversation about helping their kids manage their expectations during the holidays.

During their chat, Jenna explained why she didn’t have her kids – daughters Mila, 9, and Poppy, 7, and son Hal, 3 – write lists of presents they want from Santa Claus this year.

“We got to go see and see Santa and sit on his lap and see Mrs. Claus, and [husband Henry Hager] said ‘Well, should the kids write a list?’” Jenna recalled.

“And I said no, because I don’t want them to think that Santa is definitely going to bring all ten presents,” Jenna explained. “Once you start getting into the lists and it’s multiple things… we’ve lowered [expectations] a little bit.”

Later on, Jenna revealed that the family will be adopting a kitten as a special present for Mila.

“I’m more into experiences,” Jenna said of the types of Christmas presents she likes to give. “I like the fun trip or a concert or whatever it is, we’re into the experiences. And I think we’re going to be adopting a little kitten… don’t tell, don’t tell.”

“[Mila] wants to name her Hollywood Hager and call her Holly,” Jenna added, explaining that her daughter “kind of knows, because she’s been praying and writing and hoping and I said, ‘Well, I hope Santa…’ and she said, ‘oh no Mom, this is a gift from you.’ ”

“There’s only so long you can push,” Jenna said of making the decision to get a cat for Christmas, adding that Mila has been asking to adopt a cat for “years.”
