Keanu Reves has opened up about the upcoming John Wick spin-off movie Ballerina.

During a recent guest appearance at CCXP in Brazil, Keanu Reeves revealed new details about Ballerina, the John Wick spin-off movie starring Ana de Armas. Reeves said that the movie takes place between the events of 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and its sequel Chapter 4, which hits theaters next year.

“She is a woman who has some very difficult circumstances and who’s looking for revenge,” Reeves teased at CCXP “Someone killed her father. Who could that be? And so it’s her journey for actually understanding her past. She lost her father at a young age, and she doesn’t really know what happened. Only that someone came into the house and killed her father, who had a tattoo. And as we know in John Wick, if you have a tattoo, something’s going on.”

Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina revolves around a deadly woman who uses her skills to get on revenge on the hitmen who killed her family. The screenplay of the John Wick spin-off comes from Shay Hatten, the writer behind Parabellum and Army of the Dead.

Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as John Wick for Ballerina. He’s being joined by John Wick veterans Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston. Production on the movie is currently underway in Prague.

While Ballerina does not yet have a release date, John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 24, 2023. Reeves and McShane lead the Chapter 4 cast, which also includes Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson and Rina Sawayama.

In addition to Ballerina and John Wick: Chapter 4, Lionsgate is also working on The Continental, a spin-off series that explores the origins of Ian McShane’s Winston Scott. Colin Woodell is playing Winston, with a supporting cast that includes Ayomide Adegun, Peter Greene, Mel Gibson, Ben Robson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada and Nhung Kate. The series is set to premiere on Peacock in 2023.
