The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy was snapped lurking around a pretty local institution in Sydney this Monday.

Ritz Cinemas, located in Randwick in Sydney, shared a photo of one of their lucky front-of-house staff who managed to snap a photo with the star.

Posting the photo to Facebook, the cinemas wrote: “Last night in Randwick. Shout out to the utterly bewitching Anya Taylor-Joy for popping into the Ritz. Pictured here with our wonderful front-of-house staff Nick.”

Taylor-Joy is in Australia while filming the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa, which is set to be released in 2024.

Some Ritz fans seemed a little miffed in the comments, writing that the cinemas had been quite “secretive” about Taylor-Joy’s appearance there.

“Bugger that’s Chris Hemsworth & Anya I’ve missed.. I could just scream.. you guys are very secretive about the stars that turn up there,” one person wrote.

“It seems the Ritz is very secretive about what stars will be walking the red carpet?” another shared.

The 26-year-old British-American actress, who was born in Miami but grew up between London and Argentina, is currently living in Sydney with her musician boyfriend Malcolm McRae.

She is set to play a young Imperator Furiosa in the film, a character who was previously portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

The film sees an all-star cast, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also set to appear.

The film itself was enthusiastically welcomed by former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian last year, who promised the project would bring plenty of jobs and opportunities to local pockets of Australia.

It was cited to create at least 850 jobs and bring approximately $350 million into the local economy.
