Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst, and Natasha Lyonne attend DGA Awards

Maggie Gyllenhaal was the picture of elegance as she arrived to the 74th Directors Guild of America Awards at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Saturday.

The Lost Daughter director, 44, donned a delicate transparent Christian Dior white shirt with a high collar, which she paired with a stunning beaded white floor-length skirt.

Also in attendance was actress Kirsten Dunst, 39, who stunned in a long white dress with a black blazer on top, and Natasha Lyonne, 42, who sparkled in a glittering silver and green creation.

Gyllenhaal – who won the award for a first-time feature director for her film The Lost Daughter – paired her fashionable look with a dark manicure on her nails.

The actress sported a short hairdo and wore her dark tresses parted on the side and styled into gentle curls.

The filmmaker, who made her film acting debut at age 14 in Waterland, opted for a very fresh-faced look at the event, wearing hardly any eyeshadow and instead opting to go with a striking dark red lip.

The director was also spotted posing with her husband actor Peter Sarsgaard, 51, who looked dashing in a black suit and tie.

The Dead Man Walking star paired his outfit for the night with black dress shoes and sported an impressive bushy salt and pepper beard.

Gyllenhaal also took the opportunity to get a shot with actor and singer Lin-Manuel Miranda, 42, who was dapper in a black suit, bow tie, and shiny dress shoes.

Meanwhile Dunst paired her chic ensemble with a black belt featuring a rose around her svelte waist.

To add a bit of sparkle to her look, The Power of the Dog star sported a chic pair of black Manolo Blahnik jewel buckle pumps on her feet. The actress also accessorized with silver earrings.

As for glam, the New Jersey born star went with a soft look, wearing a delicate pink lipstick and a bit of black eyeliner and pink blush.

The blonde beauty had her stunning blonde tresses parted on the side and curled into delicate waves.

She was also joined by her husband and The Power of the Dog co-star Jessie Plemons, 33, who looked handsome in a a brown suit, which he paired with a matching shirt underneath.

Plemons paired his all-brown look with black dress shoes and wore his blonde hair lightly slicked back.

Meanwhile Lyonne – known for playing Nicky Nichols on Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black – looked ravishing with her bright red hair and contrasting lime green dress.

The star accessorized the look with a pair of pointed toe black heels with an ankle strap. 

In terms of glam the beauty went with a bronze smoky eye, voluminous lashes that made her brown eyes pop, and a nude lip.

Another nice pop of color at the event was provided by Spiderman star Andrew Garfield, 38, who donned a plum three-piece suit, and matching suede shoes.

One more hunk at the event was Succession star Kieran Culkin, 39, who looked trendy as ever in a black coat over a unique black vest and pants combo, featuring glimmering silver stripes.

Culkin paired his snazzy look with a black tie and accessorized with a multitude of silver ring on his fingers. His dark hair was parted to the side and lightly gelled down. 

Also at the event was Culkin’s on-screen sister, Succession star Sarah Snook, 34, who looked incredible in a form-fitting strapless black sequin dress that showed off her hourglass curves.

The red-headed beauty paired the outfit with elbow-length sleek black gloves, over which she wore a sizable diamond bracelet. 

She added even more spark to the mesmerizing look with a layered diamond necklace and matching studs in her ears.

Her fiery tresses were parted in the middle and slicked back into a chic bun, and she wore delicate makeup highlighting her stunning features. 

The red carpet had no shortage of glamorous couples, including actress Fran Drescher, 64, and her husband Peter Marc Jacobson, 64. 

Drescher – known for her role as Fran Fine in the 1993 television sitcom The Nanny – was the epitome of sophistication in a light pink suit, showcasing her ample cleavage.

The beauty paired her outfit with sparkly heels, and pulled her long dark tresses into a sleek ponytail. 

Another lovely couple who looked stylish as ever were actor Levar Burton, 65, and his professional make-up artist wife Stephanie Cozart Burton, 68.

Levar wore a black velvet suit jacket and dark grey pants, and Stephanie matched him in a sensational black gown with silver sparkles.

French-Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, 54 – who recently directed the critically acclaimed Dune – and his wife Tanya Lapointe made a sophisticated pair, with Villeneuve wearing a black suit and his wife matching in a stunning black gown.

Actress Stephanie Beatriz, 41, and New Zealand director Jane Campion, 67 – director of The Power of the Dog – both donned chic white blazers and matching skirts to the event.

Campion accessorized her look with a pair of black-rimmed reading glasses and open-toe black heels. 

Puerto Rican-US actress Rita Moreno, 90, wore a white three-piece suit, featuring gold hems at the bottom, and paired the eye-catching look with gold necklaces. 

Actress Anne Heche, 52, cut a stylish figure in a silver plaid gown tied with a bow at the waist, which she paired with a cropped black jacket with sequin details, as she posed next to Jeff Berlin.

Legendary director Spike Lee, 64, sported a Pan-African flag beret and his distinctive white-rimmed reading glasses, and was joined by his children, Satchel, 27, and Jackson, 25.

The show’s host, director Judd Apatow, 54, wore a black suit, white shirt, and black bow tie, and looked handsome as he smiled for the cameras. 

Co-chief executive officer and chief content officer for Netflix Ted Sarandos looked neat in a simple black suit and tie.

Another beauty on the carpet was Canadian actress Katheryn Winnick, 44 – known for her role in the television series Vikings – who donned a sensual little black dress.

Musician Questlove, 51, – born Ahmir Khalib Thompson – sported black pants, a matching button up shirt and jacket, and paired the look with colorful clogs.

French-American actress Julie Delpy, 52, posed in a black gown cinched at the waist with a belt, and stylishly tied around her neck.

Another red carpet knockout was American director Lorene Scafaria, 43, who donned an off-shoulder black polka dot gown, with a v-shaped cleavage.

Director Barry Levinson, 79, and his wife painter Diana Rhodes, 61, made a lovely couple as they matched in black, both wearing stylish fitted suits.

Scottish actor Brian Cox, 75, and his daughter Margaret Cox, looked fashionable, with Brian wearing a black suit and a bright purple tie and Margaret sporting a mini black skirt and leather boots.

Filmmaker Barry Jenkins, 42, sported a striped navy suit, reading glasses, and black shoes. 

The 74th Directors Guild of America Awards (DGA), hosted by Judd Apatow, took place on Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. 

While speaking about the show on their website last month, DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter gushed: ‘What makes the DGA Awards so very special is that it is recognition by one’s peers.’

‘We could really use some laughs,’ she said. ‘There is no host that hits all these notes more perfectly than leading director, comedian, writer and industry force, the incredible Judd Apatow. We couldn’t be more grateful that he’s returning to the DGA Awards stage.’

Apatow previously hosted the ceremony in 2018, and again two years later.

‘I am so excited to host again as part of my ongoing campaign for the Lifetime Achievement Award,’ Apatow, 54, joked of getting tapped to host for the third time. 

Unfortunately for him, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Motion Picture Direction will be going to Spike Lee.

His extraordinary efforts in the art of cinema, from Do the Right Thing to BlacKkKlansman have cemented his status in Hollywood as a trailblazer and force of nature.

‘Spike is an innovator on so many levels. His bold and passionate storytelling over the past three decades has masterfully entertained, as it held a stark mirror to our society and culture. And while he is no stranger to huge commercial success, he is also the beating heart of independent film,’ Glatter said of the legendary film director, 64. 

She concluded: ‘Even as countless filmmakers call Spike their mentor and inspiration, he continues to devote his time to teaching future generations how to make their mark. We are thrilled to present Spike with the DGA’s highest honor.’

Back in 2020, he took home the DGA Honor for his distinguished contributions to our nation’s culture in support of filmmaking.

Additionally, First Assistant Director Joseph P. Reidy, whose credits include Black Swan and Quiz Show, will receive the DGA’s 2022 Frank Capra Achievement Award. 

Manager Garry W. Hood will receive the DGA’s 2022 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award. 

‘Joe Reidy and Garry Hood are widely respected leaders in their fields who have dedicated themselves to representing their fellow members, standing up for their rights, and giving back to their union – including most recently through their participation on our Covid-19 Return to Work Committee,’ said Glatter. 

The DGA president added: ‘Our Guild draws its strength from the service and commitment of our members, and these special award winners embody that spirit at the highest level.’
