Meghan Markle Clarifies Viral Headlines Over 2019 Baby Shower, Guest List Revealed

Meghan Markle was thrown a baby shower on February 20, 2019 in New York City and the event itself caused so many headlines across the globe.

Many wondered if taxpayer money was paying for the shower. Other talk stemmed from the fact that baby showers were not as popular in the UK among royals.

In Harry & Meghan, Meghan clarified some details about the event.

She shared, “My friends surprised me with a really beautiful baby shower in New York. They were like, ‘We’re going to shower her with love, and shower her baby, and she’s going to survive this and we’re going to get through it with her.’”

Her friend Silver Tree said, ”It’s like this really magical time of us just celebrating her.”

Serena Williams added, “It was just so cool and so fun to try to have an intimate moment.”

Of the media criticizing her shower, she said, “It was so wrong. These independent strong successful women chose to use their own money and it’s not taxpayer money to throw a party for their friend from a place of love. Why are you taking such a beautiful moment and trying to ruin it?”
