Mia Wasikowska Reveals Why She Moved Out Of Hollywood & Back To Sydney

Mia Wasikowska didn’t actually disappear from Hollywood, but she did step back from taking on a ton of projects.

In a new interview, the 33-year-old actress revealed the reasons why she stepped back from the spotlight and is now only taking on certain projects .

Mia told IndieWire that her reason was more about wanting “to do more things in life other than be in a trailer.”

“I didn’t entirely like the lifestyle of going back to back to back,” she added. “I felt really disconnected from any greater community.”

Mia continued, explaining that she’s been in the acting world, having projects back to back “since I had been 17, well more like 15, but really working a lot from 17, I spent 10 to 15 years, completely like, new city, new country, every three months, and it’s like starting school again every few months.”

“Especially when you’re younger, when you don’t have that base, I found that really hard,” she shared. “At the same time, maybe if the payoff is good and you feel really great doing it, then that’s OK, but I didn’t, so I wanted to establish that for myself on a personal level and have more of a sense of somewhere I belong that’s not just on a film set that ends every few weeks.”

While Mia is still out there making movies, she did move back to Sydney permanently.

Mia is best known for her roles in Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland and The Kids Are All Right. Her most recent project is Blueback.

One of the last premieres she attended in Hollywood was in 2018.
