For those that decide to buy an extra DualSense Controller (or two) this holiday season, buying the PowerA Twin Charging Station becomes a highly-recommended accessory at the very least. The PS5 console itself is rather limited in terms of USB inputs to charge the controller, which could make keeping multiple controllers charged for the same console somewhat tedious on its own.

The Twin Charging Station does exactly as advertised, and comes at a conveniently low price, allowing for two controllers to be charged at the same time. It even features a snappy and sliding input when docking the controllers, avoiding the hassle of plugging in USB ports.

There have been many great video game controllers released over the decades across PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and more. However, the PS5’s DualSense Controller is arguably the strongest design to date, and it’s now available in multiple colors. It has a solid amount of heft to it without feeling unwieldy, with an overall impressively ergonomic layout.

The buttons and triggers are all easy to reach and satisfying to press, and the textured grips are arguably better that the PlayStation 4’s smooth plastic DualShock 4. And that’s not to mention, the immersive haptic feedback that revolutionizes standard controller rumble.

Gaming headsets are among the most popular accessories for any gaming platform. There are even several budget-friendly headsets worth looking into as well, but for those that choose to go with the enthusiast route, the first-party Sony Pulse 3D Wireless Headset is a great choice.

Complete with a sleek design, this headset was tailor-made for the PS5, boasting excellent 3D audio to further bolster that immersion factor and make games sound all the more realistic. Its ergonomics are well-thought-out as well, with comfortable cushioned cups, noise-canceling tech, and an adjustable head strap that players would come to expect.

One of the greatest assets of the PS5 is its blistering fast internal SSD storage drive. This kills boot and load times for games, making the in-game experience feel so much more seamless and intuitive. However, one of the console’s main criticisms is how surprisingly limited the onboard SSD is, with only 667GB of the advertised 1TB being usable, and games aren’t exactly getting any smaller digitally.

Help is finally on the way, though, with the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX SSD Drive expanding the PS5’s storage space by another TB. Of the high-performance third-party drives, this is certainly one of the best.

Since the inception of the original PlayStation in the ’90s, these consoles were also well known for being media players on the side of their primary gaming functions. The PS2 was known for making the jump to playing DVDs, the PS3/PS4 for Blu-rays, and now the PS5 with 4K Ultra HD discs/streaming. And for those that enjoy taking advantage of the PS5’s side perks for media, the official PlayStation Media Remote will be a good companion accessory.

Using the DualSense will ultimately get the job done for navigating video media as well, but it can be slightly cumbersome trying to get used to which gamepad inputs correspond to playing a movie or running a streaming service. The PS5 Media Remote, meanwhile, is as intuitive as any modern remote, complete with dedicated buttons for Netflix, Disney+, and more.

PlayStation 5 Console Covers

Certainly the most aesthetic accessories available to the PS5, it’s nonetheless fun for many gamers to enjoy visually personalizing their home consoles. At launch, the PS5 launched in a straightforward white-with-black-accents design for disc and digital versions.

But with more time having been released, Sony has finally allowed support for alternate-colored console covers. PlayStation itself offers the official covers, but there are also some solid (and cheaper) third-party alternatives such as the Benazcap brand versions.

Storage space is important, but since Sony greenlit a variety of third-party drives as fully compatible with the PS5, there are many options for players to consider. Spacious and high-speed SSDs can get particularly expensive, so, understandably, some would rather not opt for the top-performing drive on the market. That same variety helps in the budget category as well, with the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB SSD serving as one of the best of its size on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

Even with the slower speeds compared to its more expensive counterparts, this drive’s read/write speeds are still faster than the PS5’s native SSD. Potential buyers should know, though, that this drive doesn’t come with a heatsink to keep it cool, which is a requirement. Thankfully, capable heatsinks can be found for ~$20 or less.

PlayStation Plus

Though it’s technically a digital accessory, PlayStation Plus is nonetheless one of the best supplements to Sony’s gaming experience. It fleshed out since the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 days, with Sony overhauling its flagship subscription service to introduce different paid tiers.

The base Essential version is the same as how it was structured before, but now there are the Extra and Premium tiers with additional benefits, including access to many of PlayStation’s best exclusives and older-generation classics from the PS2, PS3, and PSP era.

Razer Kaira X Wired Headset

As with the myriad of options available when it comes to storage, there are others in the headset department as well. The Sony Pulse 3D Wireless Headset makes for a superbly focused gaming session with the ambiance it provides, but it’s also reasonable if some fans aren’t willing to drop triple-digit numbers to buy a headset.

That’s where the Razer Kaira X Wired Headset comes in, as it serves as a quality, budget-level alternative in terms of both audio and comfort, made with the PS5 in mind. These kinds of devices shouldn’t be underestimated, as the likes of the Nintendo Switch greatly benefit from third-party accessories.

PlayStation HD Camera

External hardware and software will be a must for prospective or current gamers looking to stream their games, and Sony has a first-party solution to these needs. It’s namely something for those looking to take their streaming to more professional levels, with the PlayStation HD Camera offering a pair of wide-angle lenses to capture 1080p footage.

This will let players put themselves into their streaming sessions when taking the action on Twitch or YouTube. The camera’s software will also allow players to customize their backgrounds while playing/streaming.
