The Game Awards were recently held on December 8th with Elden Ring crowned as Game of the Year. Steam, alongside PlayStation and Xbox, have held a sale for many of the nominees from this year’s Game Awards.


Steam has been the primary source of the best games for PC players for nearly two decades and continues to supply fans with amazing titles from big names and indie developers. There is a plethora of games to choose from, but some games have made a name for themselves as fan favorites. Players have the option to both rate and review games on the platform, which makes it easy to see the titles that have found a permanent place in fans’ hearts.

10/10 RimWorld – 8.74

RimWorld focuses on a group of characters who crash-landed on a planet where they must survive and build a colony. The world becomes larger as the player continues the game and expands their colony.

RimWorld keeps players captivated as they build up their colony and focus on the story surrounding the characters. Players can push the narrative in different ways based on their actions, meaning every playthrough is different. RimeWorld also gives a constant sense of panic as players must also ward off incoming threats that can destroy their colony. This mechanic helps to give more life and length to the game.

9/10 Portal – 8.74

Portal and its sequel Portal 2 are some of the best puzzle games according to Reddit, which already highlights the dedicated fan following the games have. While the best aspect of Portal is undoubtedly the engaging puzzles, it also has a compelling story with fantastic dialogue.

The only downside of this game is the fact that it’s incredibly short. However, despite that, It’s a fantastic experience that has earned it a place in the top ten-rated games on Steam.

8/10 Euro Truck Simulator 2 – 8.76

The Euro Truck Simulator 2 game lets players drive semi-trucks in Europe and deliver cargo for various routes. Completing tasks gives the player in-game money and experience that can then be used to buy upgrades for various cosmetics and new vehicles.

There are plenty of countries that the player can drive through, and the game continues to receive updates that expand the range of the map. The ability to traverse the landscape and view the serene nature is the sole reason fans adore this game so much. The game is geared towards delivering a realistic experience and has thus become a beloved source of escapism for many.

7/10 Left 4 Dead 2 – 8.78

As well as being one of the best first-person shooter games of all time, Left 4 Dead 2 is the perfect game to play with others. There are five different game modes. including Campaign and Singleplayer, as well as a “Realism” mode that increases the challenge, giving players plenty of options to choose from.

While this game is focused on teamwork, the Singleplayer mode allows fans to tackle the challenge solo. However, as it was designed to be a multiplayer experience, the game shines the best when played with others. No discussion of the best co-op games is complete without mention of Left 4 Dead and the sequel makes significant improvements on the original title, offering more gameplay options and advanced technology.

People Playground is an offbeat game that presents obstacles in which the player must kill various people. In many ways, the game is comparable to Crush the Castle and even Angry Birds.

Despite its animated Mincecraft-esue block style, the game is extremely violent and has the player come up with dozens of different methods to kill people. The game’s content means it is surprising to see it rated so highly, but there’s plenty to do in-game and it offers players the opportunity to get creative with their ideas, albeit in a gory manner.

Hades is a spectacular dungeon crawler rooted in tons of great lore, mythology, mystery, discovery, and action. This is the ideal game for any fan of Greek mythology and has become a go-to roguelike game for many fans. The game’s compelling narrative and addictive gameplay has helped to cement its popularity since its release in 2020.

In it, Zagreus is making his attempt to escape the Underworld and as he dies, players are sent back to the beginning to try again. This makes the game incessantly challenging and forces the player to push on to do better as they unlock more skills. This challenge, accompanied by fantastic lore and story being uncovered, is what makes this game so great. Fans of the title will be ecstatic at the recent news that Hades is receiving a sequel (per Supergiant Games).

4/10 Vampire Survivors – 8.80

Vampire Survivors is a new roguelike shoot ’em up game released in October 2022. Players have the option to choose from a wide range of different characters to play, with each one offering variance in their abilities.

One of the most valued aspects of any video game is how much time a player can invest without the gameplay becoming boring or repetitive. The large range of characters players can choose to use solves this issue and offers new ways to face the incoming horde of enemies every time they play.

Stardew Valley is a top-down RPG which ranks as the third-highest-rated PC game on Steam. Also available on the Nintendo Switch, the incredible immersion it offers means it’s unsurprising that the game is so well-received. Players are easily sucked in, quickly forgetting about reality as they take over their land by growing various crops and raising livestock.

However, it’s not just a farming sim. The players can face many enemies, receive quests from NPCs, and even focus on building a family. With much to do and so much freedom on offer to players, it’s a title that fans have been returning to and loving since its release in 2016.

2/10 Terraria – 8.83

Terraria is without a doubt one of the best sandbox games ever and allows the player ultimate freedom as they slash their way at enemies or dig their way down into the ground below. The game is a perfect blend of creation and combat and is often compared to Minecraft but in 2D.

Giving gamers access to plenty of events they can undergo alone or alongside their friends, there is a special flare to Terraria. The title delivers addictive and memorable gameplay that fans continue to enjoy even after logging dozens of hours into it.

1/10 Portal 2 – 8.83

The sequel to the original Portal has become even more loved than the first. The game features a fantastic story, amazing characters, a memorable soundtrack, and of course, brilliant puzzles. The game is also much longer than the first, offering far more side content than the original.

While it’s by no means a long game, players will feel content with how much there is. Given how successful the first game was and how much this game is talked about online it’s not at all surprising how highly rated the game is.
