A new A League of Their Own tweet from Prime Video leads viewers wondering about season 2. A League of Their Own is a TV adaptation of the 1992 film of the same name. Premiering in 2022, Prime Video’s A League of Their Own follows the fictional story of the first all-female professional baseball league. The show stars Abbi Jacobson, Chante Adams, D’Arcy Carden, and Gbemisola Ikumelo, and features a guest performance from original A League of Their own actress Rosie O’Donnell.

Prime Video posted a cryptic tweet that seemingly pointed to another season of A League of Their Own. The platform posted a .gif of the Peaches baseball team alongside the caption: “Spring training is officially underway.”

This led many to wonder whether an announcement concerning A League of Their Own season 2 was imminent. However, Deadline reports their sources tell them the social media post was merely intended to commemorate the start of MLB’s 2023 Spring Training and nothing more.

Why A League of Their Own Deserves A Season 2

Regardless of their intention, it’s easy to see how hopeful A League of Their Own followers could mistake such a tweet as being about the show and not just baseball in general. Given this fact, this post was an odd one for Prime Video to make. “Spring training” could have easily been a euphemism for script development or other early-stage production, so excited viewers’ were justified in thinking this was a tease.

Whether Prime Video will actually make A League of Their Own follow-up season remains unannounced. A League of Their Own has enough content to develop a season 2 should Prime explore that avenue. Unlike its cinematic counterpart, A League of Their Own’s TV adaptation is unabashedly queer, bringing the queer-coded undertones of the original film into the light. A League of Their Own celebrates relationships between its main women within its first season, something that could easily be expanded upon if the show were given a second season.

Perhaps the excited reaction to the “Spring Training” post may cue Prime Video to start thinking about a second season. A League of Their Own’s D’Arcy Carden, for example, has recently expressed her desire for a season 2. Carden also pointed towards the ongoing social media attention for A League of Their Own as warranting a season 2. Hopefully soon, Prime Video can soon post a training video of A League of Their Own season 2actually in production.
