All American’s Dollars For Dudes Mirrored One Tree Hill’s Boy Auction

All American and One Tree Hill had similar episodes with auctions. One was Dollars for Dudes, and the other was the Annual Boy Toy Auction.

All American had a Dollars for Dudes charity event that ended up quite similar to One Tree Hill’s boy auction. In season 5 episode 8, Asher Adams (Cody Christian) took his girlfriend, Jaymee (Miya Horcher), to the hospital because she had chest pains. Unfortunately, that left her with a hefty medical bill that only a portion of was covered by insurance. In episode 10, Jaymee wanted to return to work before she was ready to earn the money to pay it back. Layla Keating (Greta Onieogou) came up with an idea with the vortex to hold a fundraiser to help raise funds so that she could focus on her recovery.

One Tree Hill’s season 1, episode 18, “To Wish Impossible Things,” had a similar episode where the Raven basketball players were auctioned off in the Annual Boy Toy Auction. While the episode was fun, it felt questionable that these teenage guys were auctioned off to the highest bidder. It also had a strip club feel, with the young girls holding up money. All American’s take on it was much more sophisticated.

One Tree Hill’s Haley & Lucas Reunited Like JJ & Asher In All American

In One Tree Hill’s boy auction, Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz) bid on Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) instead of her then-boyfriend, Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), to spend quality time with her best friend. Their relationship had been rocky with her new relationship with Nathan. She wanted to smooth things over. JJ Parker (Hunter Clowdus) bid on Asher because he missed his friend. JJ and Asher have also had issues lately because JJ was slacking on his training. Both sets of friends needed that quality time.

In both cases, they ended up hanging out the way they used to. Haley and Lucas were on their golf course throwing water balloons, and JJ and Asher put on their sumo suits. It was nice to see the friends having fun again. Particularly with JJ and Asher, who had a bad falling out.

One Tree Hill’s Deb Bought Tim Like All American’s Denise Buying Jordan (But Less Gross)

Deb Scott (Barbara Alyn Woods) felt bad for Tim (Brett Claywell) in “To Wish Impossible Things,” so she paid $8 to have some chores done. Denise Patterson (Alexis Fields) just couldn’t let a Baker boy go to another woman, so she bid on Jordan Baker (Michael Evans Behling) herself, $100. In both shows, older women bid on the younger men, but All American didn’t feel as creepy.

On One Tree Hill, Deb had good intentions, but Tim misunderstood and came in only wearing a speedo. It was a little uncomfortable seeing Denise watch Jordan work out, but it turned into Denise giving him good advice. It didn’t feel as bad with Denise on All American because Jordan is an adult. In comparison, Tim was underaged and hitting on his best friend’s mother.
