Andor Honest Trailer Can’t Get Over That This Is A Star Wars Show

Screen Junkies’ Andor Honest Trailer can’t get over that it’s a Star Wars show, praising its lack of legacy characters, nostalgia baiting and tone.

After scoring widespread acclaim, the Andor Honest Trailer joins the bandwagon of those in love with the Star Wars show. The latest chapter in Lucasfilm’s sci-fi universe acts as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, chronicling the origins of Diego Luna’s eponymous character as he goes from a thief to a key player in the Rebel Alliance, including participating on a major heist and a stint in the water-surrounded prison on Narkina 5. Andor has garnered some of the best reviews of the franchise, and the group of those enjoying the show continues to grow.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fresh off of its season finale, Screen Junkies has set their Honest Trailers sights on Andor, and can’t get over that it’s a Star Wars show. The video hilariously ponders how the show exists in the same universe as the rest of the Lucasfilm franchise, noting its darker tone, lack of comedy, merchandising, and nostalgia baiting, among other typical Star Wars trademarks, ultimately considering it to be the best show yet. How Andor Breaks Free From Star Wars Formula

Much like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story before it, Andor has largely succeeded with its diversions from the typical franchise formula, choosing instead to largely distance itself from forced nostalgic ties to focus on its own story. One of the biggest steps it took to differentiate itself from fellow Disney+ shows The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett was its very dark and grounded tone, beginning with Luna’s character killing two off-duty officers. While the first was definitely in self-defense, the second was in much colder blood, as the man was on his knees and pleading for his life.

Andor also took a much more serious approach to depicting the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, namely the brutality the latter is willing to inflict on the former in order to maintain their control. This was also seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is not only where Luna’s eponymous character hailed from, but was also co-written by series creator Tony Gilroy, who once again established very real stakes and killed off multiple key players in the show. It also sidelined a variety of Star Wars legacy characters, save for Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma, in order to actually explore its new characters, including Stellan Skarsgård’s key Rebel operator Luthen Rael.

Can Andor Season 2 Clear Season 1’s High Bar?

Diego Luna in Andor

Though not the comedy series’ first glowing review, the Andor Honest Trailer’s praise of the Star Wars show does highlight a key concern for it heading into season 2 which is the high bar it has to clear. Given The Mandalorian cleared the high expectations in its sophomore outing following its acclaimed debut, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility for the series to keep its creative stride. However, with Andor season 2 also set to conclude the show and cover four years of in-universe story, which will be managed with time jumps, Gilroy and the creative team are sure to take some major swings that will either resonate well with audiences, or lose them in the same vein as Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In the meantime, audiences can revisit Andor season 1 now streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
