[ad_1]

Diego Luna responds to MCU casting rumors circulating online that he could be Reed Richards in Fantastic 4, but it does not sound like they are true.

Andor star Diego Luna responds to rumors that he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe cast. Marvel Studios has always had a good track record of attracting top-level talent in Hollywood to join the superhero franchise. Phase 4 proved this was no different with Charlize Theron, Brett Goldstein, Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, and more taking on major or supporting roles. There is understandable interest from audiences to see other popular actors join next, and the great response to Andor season 1 on Disney+ has brought a renewed interest in seeing Diego Luna join the MCU next.

There have yet to be any credible reports linking Diego Luna to the MCU casting process, but that has not stopped rumors from circulating online that Marvel Studios are eyeing him for a role. Specifically, most of the speculation has suggested Diego Luna playing Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic 4 reboot. Now that Andor season 1 is over and Luna has earned himself an Emmy nomination for his performance, he appeared on Sith Council to discuss his Star Wars role, but also some other topics. This included host Kristian Harloff asking if he has any interest in joining the MCU, and it was in his response that Diego Luna addressed the online rumors.

I just like the, I was talking about that this morning like, the rumors. When you become part of rumors, like, if half of the rumors were real, you know. It’s just incredible the amount of stuff that I see now out there. The only thing I can tell you man is that for the next two years I’m busy, and in two years we’ll see if what I want to do is even film.

Diego Luna Is Too Busy To Be The MCU’s Reed Richards

There might be plenty of interest in seeing Diego Luna play the MCU’s Reed Richards and help lead Fantastic 4, but his response here notes how difficult that would be. This is largely due to the production timeline for Andor season 2. He has already started working on the sophomore season and will continue to do so until late 2023. That filming schedule plus the Andor season 2 promotional tour that will follow once the show releases sometime in 2024 will occupy much of his time for the next two years. However, Marvel Studios has the Fantastic 4 movie scheduled to debut in theaters in early 2025.

Even though Diego Luna suggests he is too busy to play a major Marvel hero anytime soon, there is still a chance that Marvel and Lucasfilm could make the scheduling work. Filming on the MCU’s Fantastic 4 movie is likely to begin in late 2023 or early 2024 so it is ready by February 2025. That leaves a small window for Diego Luna to get a break after Andor season 2 finishes before he would need to start work on his MCU debut. He would then be able to promote the new season presumably after production on Fantastic 4 is complete. It is doable, but Luna makes it seem unlikely.

Marvel Characters Diego Luna Could Play After Andor

If Diego Luna is not going to be the MCU’s Reed Richards, there could be other roles that Marvel approaches him about. Luna could be a great fit as Hector Ayala, the original White Tiger and one of Marvel’s biggest Latino superheroes in the comics. However, Luna being Mexican instead of Puerto Rican could keep him out of the running as well. He could also play a small role in Marvel’s Nova plans and be Sam Alexander’s father, allowing him to have a history with the Nova Corps but no longer be an active hero. Of course, Diego Luna could also play MCU characters who are not Mexican in the comics depending on his interest after Andor.
