Andrew Garfield Gushes About Tom Holland & MCU Spider-Man Movies

The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield gushes over meeting Tom Holland and shares his appreciation for the MCU Spider-Man films.

With a week left until the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield recounts sharing a delightful conversation with Tom Holland at the BAFTAs and reveals his appreciation for the MCU Spider-Man films. Before Sony lent the rights of the titular character to Disney so they could incorporate him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Garfield played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man. With the confirmed appearance of past villainous antagonists such as Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) in Spider-Man: No Way Home, speculation about Garfield’s potential return as an alternate-universe Peter Parker in the film has been circulating.

Following the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, Sony rebooted the esteemed franchise with director Marc Webb in 2012, with Garfield playing the lead role and Emma Stone playing Gwen Stacy. Though Garfield’s performance was generally praised, The Amazing Spider-Man met a lukewarm reception. As Kevin Feige desired Spider-Man’s arrival in the MCU, Garfield’s rendition of Spider-Man was short-lived, ending after two installments in 2014.

Still, in a YouTube video for Wired, Garfield has nothing but praise for Holland and the MCU Spider-Man films. Garfield reminisces about the time he met Holland at the BAFTAs, as he shared a wonderful conversation with Holland and adds, “I’m just super grateful he’s the one filling out the suit.” Garfield concludes the same question by stating his admiration for the MCU Spider-Man films as they have done an “incredible job with it.” Read his full transcribed quote below:

“I really like him. I think he’s a wonderful person. I met him at the BAFTAs one year. We had a lovely talk. He was very sweet… As an actor, I just think he’s absolutely wonderful. I’m just super grateful he’s the one filling out the suit. I love those films. I think they’ve just done an incredible, incredible job with it.”

With recent alleged leaks for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield has vehemently denied his rumored appearance in the upcoming film. Moreover, Garfield has recently shared his fatigue in continuously being badgered to address the purported rumors, despite consistently dismissing them. Nevertheless, Garfield articulates his support for Spider-Man: No Way Home and expresses his gratitude towards Holland’s iteration of the titular character. Likewise, Holland recently disclosed his fondness over the unique take of Garfield’s depiction of the beloved hero and his adoration for the skateboarding sequence in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Garfield’s underrated portrayal as Spider-Man has become revered over the years, with many fans believing the web-swinging choreography to be the most iconic out of the Spider-Man franchise. Therefore, it is not unusual to see fans yearning to see Garfield reprising his role as Spider-Man alongside Holland. Whether or not Garfield makes an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seems unlikely for fans to be truly content with Garfield’s response until the premiere.
