Sometimes, the leading women of The Bachelorette end up eliminating underrated men on night one simply for not getting to know them better.

The name of the game on The Bachelorette is that a certain number of men must go home each week, so it’s inevitable that sometimes hidden gems are eliminated on the very first night. Some of them gain surprising traction with fans who even call for them to be the next lead. Most of the time, the men eliminated on night one are those who just don’t click with the leads. As a result, the leads on The Bachelorette usually send those contestants home without knowing too much about them.

The first day of filming on The Bachelorette is generally a long and arduous night full of people and activity. Thus, it’s not uncommon for contestants to miss out on getting any time with the lead at all. Such men often won’t make it to week two, though it’s often not due to anything they did wrong.

‘Grocer’ Joe stole fans’ hearts with his charming intro package on the first night, and though he was clearly nervous in front of Bachelorette lead Becca Kufrin, Joe was an instant fan-favorite. As such, it was a shocker for many viewers that Joe didn’t get a rose and was sent home that very night. Since then, Joe has become one of the most popular contestants to ever get sent home first, and he’s gone on to star on both Bachelor in Paradise and Dancing With The Stars.

Blake Killpack

On Rachel Lindsay’s season, the former Bachelorette caught heat for sending Blake home so early. The US Marine veteran and pilot from Hawaii was praised by fans for his humble nature, sterling accomplishments, and striking good looks. Therefore, the fans were shocked that Blake went home night one. He was perhaps too low-key for Rachel’s taste, who is now in a great relationship with Bryan Abasolo, but many fans will always carry a torch for Blake.

Hunter Jones

Hunter Jones was eliminated on night one during Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, and many fans believe that he deserved a closer look than he got from the former Bachelorette lead. The pro surfer from Westchester, California was charismatic and polite, but he was also a little nervous. He resonated with several viewers but never made a splash with Hannah.

There are many reasons why The Bachelorette might send someone home night one, but that doesn’t stop fans from thinking they’re wrong for doing so. With so many men to meet and so little time to do it in, it’s inevitable that the leads will miss some prime candidates, though things still seem to have a way of working out for the best.
