Black Cat Cosplay Is Perfect Proof of Concept for Her Movie Debut

[ad_1]

Spider-Man frenemy Black Cat has yet to appear in live action, but cosplayer Caitlin Christine has helped lay the foundations for her grand entrance.

Fan favorite Spider-Man comic book supporting character Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat has a penchant for robbing from expensive jewelers and museums throughout New York City. After years of staying under the radar, the lawless costumed vigilante finally receives a cosplay close-up from frequent online cosplayer Caitlin Christine.

Skirting on the edge of villainy and heroism, Black Cat has often served as a recurring foe and love interest to Spider-Man in his crime fighting exploits. Unlike Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson, Black Cat began with her own fixation on the Spider-Man alter ego rather than the civilian Peter Parker. As Spidey’s beloved rogues’ gallery continues to be adapted to the big screen, Black Cat remains one of the few Spider-Man supporting characters to stay limited to the comic page. Black Cat nearly received her own live action solo project opposite another staple Spider-Man antihero Silver Sable, but the movie ultimately ended up on the cutting room in favor of other Spidey spinoff projects.

Part 5 of content creator/cosplayer Caitlin Christine’s (@caitlinchristinee) “Superheroes Doing Ordinary Things pt. 5” continues with the comic faithful depiction of Black Cat. Set in the backdrop of the San Diego Museum of Art, photographer Alex Miller (@liquidverve) and BTS work from Kaiti Mackenzie (@kaititmackenzie) help showcase Caitlin’s Black Cat doing what she does best… pulling off an elaborate heist. In traditional Black Cat fashion, the titular antihero is displayed with her own furry feline. While the images avoid Black Cat ransacking the exhibition, it’s not difficult for hardcore fans to assume what Ms. Hardy and her cat burglar alter ego is doing in a museum. This isn’t the first collaboration between Miller and Christine, who have an ample history of cooperating on several cosplay photo shoots.

Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man trilogy may be concluded but there is still plenty of story left to be explored, including the wall crawler’s relationship with Black Cat. Black Cat is a character that may even be best introduced as a villainous co-lead or recurring minor obstacle in a future Spider-Man film before expanding to a spinoff film or show of her own. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has done an exceptional job of introducing several iconic superheroes and teams as minor roles in crossover movies before the characters are allowed to shine completely down the line. The established formula was done with Holland’s own Spider-Man in 2016’s Captain America Civil War, which helped to set up the following year’s Spider-Man Homecoming.

While the character’s time on screen alongside Spider-Man is left to be determined, Black Cat can be seen monthly in Jed MacKay and Vincenzo Carratu’s Mary Jane & Black Cat five issue miniseries.
