Katee Sackhoff: We do get to touch a little bit on her emotional journey this season, which is really fun for me. I love complicated characters, and I think that her backstory is so incredibly rich with complication — a lot by her own design. I think that there is a lot of deep, heavy thought and atonement going on in her mind, potentially.

How Bo-Katan’s Clone Wars History Can Play Into The Mandalorian Season 3

Bo-Katan was the sister of Mandalore leader Duchess Satine. Mandalore followed pacifist philosophy under Duchess Satine, but Bo-Katan believed that Mandalorians should honor and embrace their warrior ancestry. While a part of Death Watch, Bo-Katan participated in attacks against the Mandalorian government, including a coup that resulted in the deaths of Death Watch leader Pre Viszla and her sister.

Bo-Katan has been trying to right these wrongs her entire life. She contacted former Jedi Ahsoka Tano for help defeating Darth Maul. She took the Darksaber with the intent of reuniting her fractured people, but the Empire still rose to power and subjugated the planet. Years later, Bo-Katan was once again given the Darksaber and chosen to lead the Mandalorian clans in their rebellion against the Empire. Mandalore was annihilated by the Empire, with the few survivors now spread across the galaxy.

Bo-Katan has continued to hunt for the Darksaber, hoping to once again use it in an effort to unite and take back Mandalore. However, Din Djarin won the Darksaber from Moff Gideon in combat, making it his by Mandalorian tradition. Bo-Katan has fought for years to make up for the mistakes she made in the past, and it seems her efforts may have left more devastation in her wake. The Mandalorian could see Bo-Katan forced to reckon with the decisions she has made and whether she is the leader Mandalore needs. This may be the start of her journey toward atonement, which seems to be what she has been searching for all along.
