Robin Dearden, the wife of Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, had a hilarious one-word reaction to the show’s pilot script when she first read it.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston details his wife’s hilarious one word reaction after reading the show’s pilot script. After working mostly on sitcoms such as Seinfeld and Malcolm in the Middle early in his career, Cranston’s role as meth kingpin Walter White/Heisenberg on Breaking Bad helped the actor to reinvent himself. During Breaking Bad‘s universally acclaimed run from 2008 to 2013, Cranston racked up four Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as a Golden Globe, for his work on the show.

Speaking to GQ to break down some of his most memorable roles, including his latest as judge Michael Desiato on Your Honor, Cranston tells the comical story of the first time his wife read the pilot script for Breaking Bad. Check out what Cranston says below:

Cranston says that he always gets his wife, Robin Dearden, to give him advice on which roles he should or shouldn’t take. With Breaking Bad, he knew that she had given her approval when she finished reading the pilot script and said just one word. Read Cranston’s full quote below:

I remember going to my wife. I always get her counsel, because we’re together, whatever I do affects her. So I wanted to get her input on it. And I said to her, ‘Just know that this show would shoot in Albuquerque, New Mexico if it were to happen.’ And I handed her the script and she started reading the script. And I would peek in to see every once in a while and she was like, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom to the end. And right when she got near the end, I came back into the room and she went, ‘shit.’ She just said ‘shit’ and I knew that was her approval.

Will Cranston Ever Reprise His Breaking Bad Role Again?

Walter White forces Elliot and Gretchen to deliver money to his son in Breaking Bad

In 2019, Cranston returned to play Walter White in the Breaking Bad sequel movie El Camino during a flashback scene. He did the same in 2022, appearing in two episodes of the spinoff series Better Call Saul. Playing the role of Walter White on Breaking Bad changed the trajectory of Cranston’s career, as he has now become one of the biggest television stars in the world. Considering that, it makes sense that Cranston has been willing to return to the role since White’s death in the Breaking Bad series finale.

Most recently, Cranston once again took on the Heisenberg role alongside Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman for a Breaking Bad-themed PopCorners ad during the 2023 Super Bowl. While the actor called the chip ad his “retiring episode” as the iconic character, he also joked about how he has thought that he was done with Walter White before, only to return to the role again when the circumstances were right.

At this point, however, it has now been nearly 10 years since the end of Breaking Bad, and it won’t be long before Cranston has aged out of the role entirely, which would put something of a ticking clock on his chances to reprise the role. Cranston’s busy schedule, which includes the June 2023 release of romantic comedy-drama Asteroid City and the spy thriller Argylle, which is currently in post-production, would also make it tough for the actor to find the time to do another Walter White cameo.
