Captain America Just Got an Amazing New Battle Cry

As the Avengers’ war with Mephisto reaches a fever pitch, the multiverse’s Captain America army is unleashed, bellowing a brand new battle cry.

In a preview for Avengers Forever #12, an army of Mephisto variants is attempting to lay siege to the God Quarry, where the mysterious Avenger Prime dwells. The Quarry is protected by a battalion of Captain America variants, and as they charge into battle, they unveil a truly epic rallying cry. The issue is on sale in print and digital December 21.

Over the past year, the extent of Mephisto’s manipulations of the multiverse have been revealed. Working with his variants from across the multiverse, Mephisto has been attempting to undermine the Avengers throughout history, starting with the Stone Age incarnation of the team. The modern-day Avengers traveled back to Earth’s prehistoric era to warn the Avengers of that era, which left Avengers Tower open to attack. Mephisto seized the opportunity, sending an army of his variants to lay siege to the Tower, which stands at the center of the multiverse. However, as seen in a preview for Avengers Forever #12, Avenger Prime has an army waiting to come to its defense.

The preview opens with the army of Mephisto variants mounting their final assault upon Avengers Tower, opposed by an army of Cap variants led by Captain Carter. The Captains America charge towards the invaders. This group – nicknamed the Howling Commandos in reference to Nick Fury’s WWII squad – is the first line of defense for the Avengers Tower, and as they engage the army of Mephistos, Captain Carter tells the Commandos they must hold the line, for they are “the shield that guards the tower.” Captain Carter then rallies the troops, telling them they will die in their boots if that is what it takes, and they do it “for the Dream!” The other Howling Commandos echo Carter’s rallying cry. The issue comes from Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Mark Farmer, Frank Martin and Cory Petit.

Captain America Fights For The Dream

This battle cry, uniting versions of Captain America from every reality, is the perfect complement to the epic “Avengers Assemble.” That particular rallying cry summons Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and has been bellowed by Cap countless times, but here Captain Carter creates a new version – one that speaks specifically to the Sentinel of Liberty. Captain America has spoken frequently about his personal vision of the American Dream, even making headlines after Steve Rogers shared his inclusive version of the concept. In this case, “for the Dream” not only serves as a battle cry against Mephisto, but also a reminder of the world the Caps are fighting for.

Captain America is always a leader, no matter the universe or timeline – and readers can see that on display in this preview. Captain America also represents freedom from oppression and tyranny wherever it comes from, and his new battle cry invokes that dream. Captain America just got an awesome new battle cry, one that unites versions of the hero from across the multiverse.
