Cobra Kai: Eagle Fang Karate’s Uniforms Reference Johnny’s Karate Kid Past

[ad_1]

Eagle Fang Karate’s uniforms in Cobra Kai season 4 reference Johnny Lawrence’s past with the rival dojo he was part of in The Karate Kid.

Eagle Fang Karate’s uniforms in Cobra Kai reference Johnny Lawrence’s The Karate Kid past. Throughout the four seasons of Cobra Kai, the sequel series has turned William Zapka’s character into much more than Daniel LaRusso’s rival. That contentious relationship is still at the heart of the show, but Johnny has used karate to try and get his life back on track. This originally included relaunching Cobra Kai, but season 3 saw him start his own dojo: Eagle Fang Karate.

Johnny’s karate dojo took on a bigger role in Cobra Kai season 4, as Eagle Fang Karate teamed up with Miyagi-Do Karate to train for the All Valley Tournament. This became the first place for Johnny’s dojo and students to perform in a public event. Miguel Diaz is Eagle Fang’s star student and was seen as the favorite to win the men’s bracket of the tournament to defend his title. When it finally came time for the All Valley Tournament, everyone associated with Eagle Fang Karate walked out wearing the dojo’s new red uniforms.

The decision to give Eagle Fang Karate red uniforms has a deeper connection to Johnny Lawrence’s Karate Kid past. Miyagi-Do having white uniforms and Cobra Kai having black uniforms surely played a factor in giving Eagle Fang Karate a bright red suit. However, the color red also has a long history with Johnny Lawrence and his own karate history. Back in The Karate Kid, Johnny was often seen wearing his red Cobra Kai jacket. It’s a color he seems to be quite fond of and incorporated it into Eagle Fang Karate’s design and uniforms as a result.

Johnny’s memories of being with Cobra Kai were not all pleasant, but his love of that red jacket certainly has not gone away. Cobra Kai repeatedly gives Johnny red clothes to wear, which certainly is done on purpose. The red color scheme for Eagle Fang Karate’s uniforms and other paraphernalia must be a conscious choice on the show’s part to keep Johnny associated with that color. What isn’t clear, though, is if Johnny is as aware of this connection or if he just chose red because he thinks it looks cool.

Beyond the connection between Johnny’s Cobra Kai jacket and the Eagle Fang Karate’s uniforms, it’s fascinating that red has become his color in the franchise. There are various thematic and symbolic meanings for the color red, such as life, courage, anger, and love. The throughline of every meaning is passion. Johnny Lawrence is certainly passionate about certain aspects of life, such as karate and mentoring Miguel. As Cobra Kai continues, it will be intriguing to see if Johnny and his Eagle Fang Karate students continue to share these characteristics.
