In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Daredevil, Matt Murdock’s new role as ruler of the Fist has magically amplified his senses to an extreme degree.

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil #5In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Daredevil, Matt Murdock has received a major upgrade to his abilities and senses, becoming more powerful than ever before. Having become the new ruler of the Fist alongside Elektra, their dynamic new order is growing as they prepare to fight the evil ninja clan known as the Hand. Now, this new issue has revealed the benefits and consequences of Matt Murdock’s senses having been massively increased.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Previously in Daredevil, Matt Murdock left Hell Kitchen in the capable hands of Spider-Man and Mayor Luke Cage while he joined Elektra on a quest to defeat the Hand once and for all. Engaging in supernatural rituals to revive the rival order known as the Fist, Daredevil and Elektra are now married as the Fist’s rulers while those who’ve agreed to join them have received increased strength and agility (even Foggy Nelson who left Hell’s Kitchen as well). This includes Daredevil himself despite already having impressive abilities such as his heightened senses, giving him his own unique form of sight.

Now, the new Daredevil #5 from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto also confirms that Daredevil’s senses have been amplified to such as degree that he can literally feel the emotions of others. He’s effectively become an empath similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy’s Mantis (though he can’t manipulate emotions directly like she can). However, Daredevil suggests that this new power will eventually be his undoing.

Are Daredevil’s New Powers Actually A Curse?

Daredevil Sensing Emotions New Powers

Daredevil makes a good point about his heart not being able to take this new ability to feel the surrounding emotions of others. It seems like a power that would wear a person down pretty quickly, especially if there’s no immediate solution to help those who are currently struggling. That being said, it does seem to aid Matt’s current mission where Daredevil’s decided to build his army by offering a collection of villains a shot at redemption by staging a massive prison break and bringing several foes into the fold of the Fist.

Currently, all of Daredevil’s tactics are changing right along with his beliefs about justice and how it should be served. It also doesn’t help that he’s been facing new challenges to his faith as well. As such, this new power upgrade is an extension of all that change, one that will likely help as much as hinder as the series continues. Daredevil #5 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
