David Tennant shares his humorous response to son Ty Tennant’s House of the Dragon guest appearance during a recent comic convention. The actor is known for his roles as the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who and the demon Crowley on Good Omens. The younger Tennant made his House of the Dragon debut during season 1 of the Game of Thrones prequel, where he portrayed the young Aegon II, son of Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who is positioned by the Hightower faction to become the heir to the Iron Throne, despite his reluctance to fulfill his royal duties.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

As seen in a photo shared on Twitter by Georgia Tennant, both actors recently attended London Film and Comic Con together as guests. In a photo, David Tennant jokingly holds a sign behind Ty reading “He’s not that special” during a signing at the event. The sign is a nod to a similar moment between Tennant’s father-in-law and Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davidson during a previous event that both actors attended, where Davidson held a similar sign beside Tennant during his signing. Why A David Tennant HOTD Cameo Would Be Epic

Good Omens David Tennant as Middle Ages Crowley

While Ty Tennant handed over the role of Aegon to Tom Glynn-Carney following the time skip after the events in House of the Dragon episode 7, dedicated viewers looking forward to future seasons of House of the Dragon may wonder whether Ty’s father may be perfect for a role in Westeros. David Tennant is no stranger to fantasy series thanks to his roles in Doctor Who, Good Omens, and The Legend of Vox Machina. Tennant is also capable of playing characters possessing the same dubious moral compass and villainous leanings that many of Westeros’ well-known figures possess; this was seen in his performance on Jessica Jones, as well as through the Tenth Doctor’s more power-mad and egotistical moments. As such, Tennant has more than proven himself an actor capable of stepping into the complex royal power plays and backstabbing that audiences grew to expect from Westeros.

Furthermore, with Matt Smith denying a Doctor Who return for the show’s 60th anniversary, Tennant taking on a role in House of the Dragon, no matter how substantial, could provide audiences with a chance to see the two share the screen once more. Both Smith and Tennant acted alongside each other as the Eleventh and Tenth Doctor respectively during the British sci-fi show’s 2013 50th-anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor”, where both incarnations of the Time Lord shared significant screen time. As such, while Smith may not be re-teaming with Tennant’s mysterious Fourteenth Doctor during Doctor Who‘s 60th-anniversary celebrations in 2023, the two reuniting in Westeros would be sure to bring a smile to viewers aware of both actors’ shared filmography.

As Aegon, Ty Tennant helped establish House of the Dragon‘s complex family dynamics through his portrayal of the then-reluctant heir to the Iron Throne. As such, the young actor quickly made his mark on the show, helping establish a dynamic that Glynn-Carney would carry forward into the latter half of season 1. Now that Ty has joined his father in the world of acting, David Tennant gets the chance to carry on the joke once established by his father-in-law in a perfectly tongue-in-cheek way.
