DC Hints an Official Crossover with Marvel Is Coming Soon

[ad_1]

It’s been years since DC and Marvel have had a crossover, but a discovery of the Flash’s in Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 hints that one may be coming.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 ahead! The Big Two haven’t interacted in a while, but it seems a crossover between DC Comics and Marvel is on the horizon. Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 hints at the return of a world that the two comic book titans had a hand in creating.

When it comes to superhero fiction, Marvel and DC pretty much have the market cornered. The two publishers have the lions’ share of iconic heroes such as Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman. And though both companies have largely kept to themselves, there has been the occasional crossover between the two. Major events like Marvel vs. DC, JLA/Avengers, and a handful of one-off stories like Batman/Daredevil: King of New York or Green Lantern/Silver Surfer: Unholy Alliances have seen the heroes of both worlds team-up for some thrilling adventures. However, the last several decades has seen a complete lack of interaction between the two comic book universes.

However, fans may be seeing a crossover between Marvel and DC Comics sooner rather than later if one recent Flash adventure is anything to go by. In Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 by Mark Waid Dan Jurgens, the Flash and his sidekick, Kid Flash are seeking out the dreaded Anti-Monitor, who Barry Allen fears is out to destroy the recently resurrected infinite universes. As they investigate, they journey across several worlds in the reconstructed multiverse, noting the new worlds and their relation to Barry and Wallace’s home of Earth-0. The heroes do find the Anti-Monitor, but thanks to the combined efforts of the heroes of DC’s Multiverse, they successfully contain him in a negative cosmos. At the end of Barry’s journey, he documents the strange worlds he’s come across. One in particular is designated as Earth-1996, a home to “mysterious “amalgamated” heroes” that needs to be investigated.

DC and Marvel’s Amalgam World Is Back

Amalgam Comics

The Amalgam Universe is Marvel and DC’s shared world where the inhabitants are fusions of heroes from both companies. Instead of Superman or Captain America, Super-Soldier. The world is also home to combination heroes such as Darkclaw, Amazon, Speed Demon, and Iron Lantern. It stands to reason that a world of amalgamated heroes would be the Amalgam Universe, especially since it made its debut in 1996, the same designate for the enigmatic Earth Barry discovered.

While a trip to the Amalgam Universe would no doubt be entertaining, the world and its characters are co-owned by DC and Marvel, meaning both need to agree to their use. But DC’s hinted at a ‘Secret Crisis’ crossover event with Marvel as recently as 2019. Between that tease and the confirmation that the Amalgam Universe exists as part of DC’s infinite universes, an event that brings the two companies together may actually be coming soon. When will Flash journey to Earth-1996 to investigate the mysterious world of fusions? It’s hard to say, but as soon as he does, a DC and Marvel crossover becomes inevitable.
