Deadpool 3: Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know

[ad_1]

The Deadpool franchise is expanding with Deadpool 3, which will continue Ryan Reynolds’ journey as Wade Wilson and the character’s introduction to the MCU. Originally playing the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds’ poor experience with the character only fueled his desire to give the Merc with a Mouth justice on the big screen. Deadpool’s reboot in 2016 proved the Marvel character’s insane popularity, and Deadpool 3 has a release date of 8th November 2024. It’s also confirmed Deadpool will be part of the MCU for his third movie, and it will finally see a proper Deadpool and Wolverine pairing as Hugh Jackman returns to his famous role after Logan. That news alone makes Deadpool 3 one of the most anticipated MCU movies.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

After Ryan Reynolds spent years trying to make Deadpool happen, the first two Deadpool movies were critical and financial smash hits. Both earned more than $780 million worldwide and were praised for the R-rated jokes and violence they included. Deadpool 3 is one of many projects considered to be part of the upcoming MCU slate of movies and TV shows. Disney and Marvel confirmed the Merc with a Mouth would be coming home to the MCU at SDCC 2022, with the release date confirmed by Reynolds later the same year. Deadpool is now positioned to be part of the Multiverse Saga in the MCU which has also allowed him to bring along a friend from the X-Men universe, with Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 Casts Villain Emma Corrin

Aside from the return of both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their famous Marvel roles, The Crown star Emma Corrin has also reportedly been cast in the role of Deadpool 3‘s villain. The character that Corrin will be taking on is still under wraps, but, as is always the case with expansive comic book universes, there are a number of possibilities as to which Marvel villain the actor could be playing. Corrin is currently most famous for playing the iconic Diana, Princess of Wales in The Crown, so she’s no stranger to high-profile roles and could even be appearing as one of Marvel’s more famous villains.

Deadpool 3 Is Confirmed

Following Disney getting the rights to the Fox universe, there were a lot of questions about where a Deadpool 3 would actually happen. Along with being a decidedly R-rated Marvel character, his fourth-wall-breaking humor didn’t seem to mesh with the delicately constructed Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it was confirmed by Ryan Reynolds that Deadpool 3 was happening within the MCU with Kevin Feige later backing up that claim. The movie is currently scheduled to kick off Phase 6 of the MCU as its first movie.

Deadpool 3: Release Date

Deadpool 3 She-Hulk

Deadpool 3‘s current release date is 8 November 2024. Ryan Reynolds initially announced the release date would be September 2024. However, this was then pushed back alongside other Phase 5 and 6 MCU projects (possibly due to production delays on Blade). Following the addition of Shawn Levy as its director, he revealed that production wouldn’t begin until 2023 at the earliest due to his other commitments.

This doesn’t seem to have delayed things too much though, as Ryan Reynolds was able to announce in 2022 that Deadpool 3 would be ready in time for inclusion as part of the MCU Phase 5. The movie is scheduled to arrive between Blade (September 2024) and Fantastic Four (February 2025) in the MCU lineup, which means it will be the first movie of the MCU’s Phase 6.

Deadpool 3: Cast

Deadpool 3 Wolverine Road Trip Plot

Ryan Reynolds is officially on board to return to star in Deadpool 3, marking his MCU debut. It marks the fourth appearance by the actor as the irreverent, Marvel superhero. When audiences last saw Deadpool, he was time-traveling in Deadpool 2‘s post-credits scene, which could set up his first MCU appearance. The biggest casting news from the movie has clearly been the return of Jackman as Wolverine, something many fans had simply given up on ever seeing. Logan, released in 2017, was touted as the end of Jackman’s Wolverine story, and despite the calls for his return, it was a satisfying conclusion.

However, in September 2022, Ryan Reynolds announced on social media with a hilarious video that Jackman would return to the iconic role once again. Jackman later expressed that his appearance in no way undoes what happened in Logan, but simply takes place at an earlier time. Beyond Jackman and Reynolds, the only other official casting news is Emma Corrin being cast in her villain role.

It is also possible fans will see the return of Deadpool characters like Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) while Domino actress Zazie Beetz and Cable actor Josh Brolin have both expressed a desire to be in Deadpool 3. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. There is also the question of whether Jackman’s return will open up the door for other Fox X-Men characters to join the MCU, especially after Patrick Stewart returned for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Deadpool 3: Story Details

There are currently no confirmed details about Deadpool 3‘s story. It is known that Deadpool and Wolverine’s relationship features prominently in the story with Jackman suggesting that Logan hates Wade. While the two may be adversaries at first, it can be expected that they eventually team up. It is also safe to assume that there will be some multiverse mayhem in the story as Deadpool and Wolverine find themselves in the MCU. This will likely come about thanks to Deadpool’s new time-travel abilities. This has led to rumors that Deadpool 3 will feature the TVA which makes sense as the universe jumping would certainly get their attention.

Deadpool 3: Trailer

Since there is no release date or confirmed timeframe for filming to begin, the first Deadpool 3 trailer is not coming any time soon. However, there have been two videos released in relation to the movie, though not featuring any real footage. The first was the announcement of Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine while the second one featured Reynolds and Jackman discussing the movie in length and its story only for the sound to be edited out. It is the type of irreverent marketing that can be expected from Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 Will Be Part Of The MCU

It has been confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that the movie will bring Deadpool to the MCU, somehow. Deadpool’s previous movies seemingly had references to the MCU, such as the helicarrier-like vehicle used as the location for Deadpool‘s final battle. However, the movies also included several mutants and established X-Men characters, such as the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix appearing in Deadpool 2. An MCU Deadpool 3 gives him a whole host more events and characters to play with.

On the other hand, the MCU recently introduced mutants in Ms. Marvel, as well as a Patrick Stewart Charles Xavier variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Phase 4 has laid solid groundwork for the eventual appearance of the X-Men, and it’s a testament to Deadpool’s popularity that he’s debuting in the MCU before characters like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Magneto, or other incredibly well-known mutants (but alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine).

Deadpool 3: Director & Writers

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

Disney and Marvel are keeping with another tradition of the Deadpool franchise by changing directors with each installment. Tim Miller helmed the first movie, but David Leitch took over for Deadpool 2. When it comes to the follow-up, it has been confirmed that Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3. The new job marks the continuation of Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy working together and delivering a series of hits in Free Guy and The Adam Project.

It was reported that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin from Bob’s Burgers were working on the script with original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had been hired to take over writing duties in early 2022. They have since reassured that Deadpool won’t be “Disney-fied” and will retain the same humor and tone as the previous two movies.

Deadpool 3 Is Still R-Rated (Despite Being At Disney)

Like the previous two movies, Deadpool 3 will be R-rated. Disney has made a point of confirming this multiple times, and it will make Deadpool 3 the MCU’s first R-rated movie. While a good Deadpool movie could still be made with a PG-13 rating, it isn’t surprising that the studios are moving ahead with an R-rated MCU Deadpool 3 vision. The franchise is synonymous with its adult content, so watering it down would be a bad look for Disney. It also allows Deadpool 3 to be a testing ground for Marvel Studios, which could mean more R-rated movies in the future.
