Destiny 2: How To Get The Manticore (& Catalyst) Exotic SMG

[ad_1]

The Manticore is a new Void Exotic SMG added in Destiny 2’s Season of the Seraph. This unique weapon is capable of suspending Guardians in the air.

The Manticore is a brand-new Exotic SMG introduced in Destiny 2‘s Season of the Seraph. This incredibly unique Veist weapon is unlike any other gun in the game. The Manticore allows Guardians to temporarily hover in the air and rain down a barrage of bullets on their foes. The weapon has a fast firing rate, is accurate, and its Exotic Catalyst is easy to acquire this season.

Players can only earn The Manticore from the reward track for Season of the Seraph. This can be accomplished for free by getting to Rank 35. Additionally, Guardians that own the Season Pass will be able to acquire The Manticore immediately. This can be purchased for 1,000 Silver, which costs $9.99 (US). As players earn experience from activities in Destiny 2, they will naturally gain Ranks in the seasonal reward track. Besides acquiring this weapon immediately, Guardians will obtain the Scorpionflight Weapon Ornament for The Manticore at Rank 100.

The Manticore: Catalyst, Perks, & Intrinsic Traits

According to the Youtube channel Ehroar, the Manticore comes with a curated set of Perks and Traits. The SMG has the Arrowhead Break Barrel, which increases handling speed and significantly controls recoil. The featured Magazine, Ricochet Rounds, increases stability and slightly increases range. Stability is further increased with the Fitted Stock Perk, but handling speed is decreased somewhat. Recoil is also moderately controlled. Finally, the Manticore has a unique Perk called Swooping Talons, increasing the weapon’s airborne damage output.

This pairs nicely with the Intrinsic Trait, Soaring Fang, on the Void Exotic in Destiny 2. Dealing damage while grounded charges antigrav repulsors. The sides of The Manticore will open when airborne Guardians hit an enemy. This will activate the antigrav repulsors and temporarily suspend players in the air. As Guardians continue to deal damage while airborne, the effect will be extended. The Manticore’s Exotic Catalyst is called Flying Monster, which grants damage resistance for each weapon’s final blow in the air.

Upon acquiring this Exotic, Banshee will have a new quest to complete in The Tower. Guardians can earn the Catalyst by completing these missions. The first step requires that players defeat 50 targets with SMGs while airborne. For the second step, Guardians must defeat enemies with The Manticore and collect 200 calibration data from completing core playlists in Destiny 2. While the former can be easily acquired by using the weapon, the latter is a slow process. For example, one Vanguard Nightfall on Hero difficulty rewards one calibration data. Season Pass owners might want to wait until Rank 22, as this will unlock the Catalyst Quest Boost Omega, quadrupling objective progression. While acquiring the Flying Monster may take multiple runs of the core playlist, both The Manticore and its Exotic Catalyst are worth the effort in Destiny 2.
