An upcoming dubbed anime crossover brings together Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Toriko characters into a contest that sees Goku and Luffy clash.

A very special anime crossover episode bringing together Dragon Ball Z and One Piece is finally getting dubbed and releasing on Toonami, and viewers won’t need to wait long to watch it. With the dub of Dragon Ball Super‘s anime ending back in 2019, it’s been several years since there have been any new Dragon Ball episodes for English viewers to consume. However, fans will finally be able to see what happens this March when characters from Dragon Ball Z and One Piece clash, especially Goku and Luffy.

The English dub of the Dragon Ball Z and One Piece crossover episode titled “Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Super Collaboration Special” is releasing on Toonami, March 4, 2023. Toei Animation announced the exciting news on Twitter.

The story combines characters from DBZ, One Piece, and the battle-cooking shonen series Toriko and enters them in a contest to win what’s described as the best-tasting meat ever discovered. Characters like Zoro, Vegeta, Piccolo, and many others from the three series also appear in the special episode.

Dragon Ball Z and One Piece’s Crossover Releases on Toonami

Luffy, Goku, and Toriko are seen laughing towards the camera while locked in a shoulder embrace.

The special has been dubbed in English for the first time and is now officially releasing in North America. While it contains characters from three popular shonen series, the episode was televised in Japan as episode 590 of the One Piece anime. The crossover was titled History’s Strongest Collaboration vs. Glutton of the Sea. It originally aired in 2013, and a lot has changed in the worlds of Dragon Ball and One Piece since then.

Goku, Luffy, and Toriko Battle For Legendary Meat

Main characters Luffy, Goku, and Toriko are seen smiling and laying on the dirt after a big battle.

Dragon Ball Super had not been created when the crossover episode originally aired, and One Piece‘s manga was barely through the Punk Hazard arc. This might disappoint viewers hoping to see Goku’s Ultra Instinct or Luffy’s 4th Gear forms in action. Still, fans of either series wanting to see interactions between the show’s main protagonists and side characters like Vegeta and Zoro will find much to enjoy in the special episode.

At the time of the special’s airing, Toriko was another shonen series that was widely popular in Japan. The series ended its anime run in 2014 and revolved around a powerful Gourmet Hunter named Toriko, who explored dangerous lands for the best cooking ingredients. The anime medium and series like Dragon Ball and One Piece continue to grow in popularity worldwide. A new crossover special with more recent series like Jujutsu Kaisen or My Hero Academia would surely be a hit with viewers hungry for more what-if scenarios involving their favorite anime characters. For the time being though, English fans of anime can look forward to Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Toriko’s epic crossover.
