Eternals Villain Kro Design Won’t Ever Be Comic Accurate In The Movie

Eternals producer confirms that the design of Kro, the villain and leader of the Deviants, won’t ever resemble his comic appearance during the film.

The design of the Eternals villain and leader of the Deviants, Kro, won’t ever be accurate to his comic design during the film. Kro is the general of the Deviants, a race of alien beings who threaten humanity and oppose the Eternals, who defend the human race. Kro will make his Marvel Cinematic Debut in Chloé Zhao’s upcoming film on November 5th.

Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, Kro first appeared in Eternals #1 in July. The villain has since crossed over into other Marvel Comics titles, crossing paths with Iron Man, Thor, and the Heroes for Hire. The general of the Deviants, Kro was an immortal shapeshifter with superhuman abilities and an accelerated healing factor, becoming a major antagonist to the Eternals and developing a complex relationship with Eternals member, Thena. Many details about the villain’s MCU story remain unknown, with a Marvel Legends figure giving fans their best glimpse at the villain, though producer Nate Moore has offered some details about the mysterious foe.

Screen Rant was invited to visit the set of Eternals at Pinewood Studios in January 2020 on the last day of filming. During the visit, Moore opened up about the mysterious foe, referring to the villain’s original pink and red humanoid comic appearance. Moore stated that Kro will never have his comic accurate appearance during in the film, ruling out the villain ever resembling his comic counterpart. Moore said, “He will probably never look like the old pink in this movie.”

While fans have been given their best look at Kro through merchandise, the villain finally made his first full appearance during Eternals‘ final trailer released in August. In the trailer, Kro is seen with a seemingly captured Thena, warning her that the team cannot protect humanity from the threats they will face. With the trailer only offering a brief glimpse at Kro, it is currently unknown if he will share his comic counterpart’s powers, or even who will be voicing the general, though he appears to have tendrils that he can use to attack his enemies.

Eternals is one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects in Phase 4, with the film largely being isolated from any other prior MCU entries. Many of its characters and elements are making their debut in the film, such as the Eternals and their centuries-spanning secret war with the Deviants, while returning elements such as the Celestials have only been touched on throughout the Guardians of the Galaxy films. With much of its plot and characters being unknown to the general audience, Kro and the rest of the cast will be a fresh new approach to the MCU, perhaps even universe-altering when Eternals premieres on November 5th.
