Evil Dead Rise Image Promises More Of Horror Franchise’s Bloody Carnage

[ad_1]

Things are getting bloody and violent again in a gnarly new image from the highly-anticipated supernatural-horror franchise entry Evil Dead Rise.

Bloody mayhem breaks out once again in a new image from the upcoming horror movie Evil Dead Rise. Legendary director Sam Raimi started all the madness with his infamous 1981 low-budget horror classic Evil Dead, its 1987 remake/sequel Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn and its bizarre 1993 spinoff Army of Darkness. The franchise was later rebooted with 2013’s Evil Dead from director Fede Alvarez. Then there was 2015’s gruesomely comedic TV show Ash vs Evil Dead, featuring the return of original Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell. Now the franchise is set to be handed off again, with Lee Cronin taking directorial reins on Evil Dead Rise.

Campbell unfortunately won’t be back for Evil Dead Rise, though the star remains a huge booster for the franchise. But even without Campbell’s presence, Evil Dead Rise will clearly keep alive a lot of elements that are key to Raimi’s original Evil Dead vision. And no element is more key to Evil Dead than the spilling, splattering and splashing of copious amounts of blood. Evil Dead Rise will definitely not take a backseat in the blood department, as is teased in a new image featuring a very gore-covered character brandishing a shotgun. Everything We Know About Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise is set to distinguish itself from the original Evil Dead movies in one key way, shifting its setting away from the classic horror movie cabin-in-the-woods to the big city, specifically Los Angeles. Unleashing loads of terrifying Deadites upon L.A. will certainly give Evil Dead Rise a different feel than those forest-bound Sam Raimi movies from the ‘80s (not to mention the reboot), but the result should be just as crazy as ever. As director Cronin told Empire, the movie “straps you onto a rocket that’s fueled by blood,” which is certainly in keeping with the spirit of the Raimi films.

Evil Dead Rise story-wise centers on the characters Beth (Lily Sullivan) and Elllie (Alyssa Sutherland), a pair of sisters who haven’t seen each other in a long time. Their happy reunion unfortunately takes a bad turn when they discover a mysterious book hidden in Ellie’s building. Fans of Evil Dead know exactly what this book is and what happens when you make the mistake of reading its words out loud. Soon enough, the sisters find themselves battling flesh-possessing demons. The movie’s cast is filled out by Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis, Tai Wano, Jayden Daniels and Billy Reynolds-McCarthy.

Evil Dead fans concerned that the new movie will lose something by shifting from the cabin setting to the city can rest assured that Evil Dead Rise will preserve the claustrophobia and madness of the original movies. As director Cronin recently told Total Film, “This is about a family in a rundown building stuck in their apartment, so it follows the same rhythm but puts it in a more contemporary space.” As the above Evil Dead Rise image clearly attests, the new movie also preserves the original films’ gleeful love of bloody mayhem. And bloody mayhem ultimately is what Evil Dead is mostly about.
