Fast X Story Details Tease Major Casualties & Characters Switching Sides

Director Louis Leterrier reveals more Fast X story details, teasing that there will be some major casualties and characters switching sides.

Fast X director Louis Leterrier reveals more story details for the upcoming film and teases that, in addition to shifting allegiances, there will be some major casualties. The tenth installment in the popular Fast & Furious franchise, Fast X is expected to serve as the penultimate movie for Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and the rest of his talented crew of drivers. The sequel serves as a follow-up to 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga, which earned generally positive reviews from critics and performed well at the box office.

Now, hurtling towards the Fast X release date, Leterrier spills more story details for his upcoming Fast & Furious movie in a new interview with Empire. The director teases that the sequel will see Diesel’s Dom embroiled in a war that will result in “tremendous casualties,” potentially a hint that viewers will be saying goodbye to a beloved franchise character. While careful not to spoil too much, Leterrier also hints that the lines between good and bad will become blurred as characters start to switch sides. Check out Leterrier’s full comment below:

“There’s a war brewing. It’s coming to an end, and it is a race to the finish. There will be some tremendous casualties. People are going to need to take sides. Alliances will need to be made. Good guys will become bad guys, bad guys will become good guys.”

Would Fast X Actually Kill A Major Character?

Roman and Han prepare to fight Jah in Fast and Furious 6.

Assuming he’s not just referring to the innocent civilians that often become unseen collateral damage as Dom and his team face off against powerful terrorist threats, Leterrier’s comments would suggest that Fast X may feature a notable character death or two. The franchise has toyed with killing off major characters before, but rarely actually follows through.

Han (Sung Kang), for example, is supposedly killed by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) at the end of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, but the character then returns in F9: The Fast Saga, revealing that he faked the whole thing with Mr. Nobody’s (Kurt Russell) help. Similarly, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) apparently dies during the events of Fast & Furious, but she then returns in the sixth installment. In addition to Vince (Matt Schulze), who was really more of a supporting character, the franchise has so far only really committed to killing off Gisele (Gal Gadot), but even she has been rumored to return.

With the franchise having so often retconned characters’ deaths, it is hard to believe that anybody in Dom’s core crew will die during the events of Fast X. Since the franchise is now nearing its conclusion, however, with an eleventh and final movie on the way, it’s certainly possible that the heightened stakes will see some more minor supporting characters bite the dust. Thankfully, audiences don’t have much longer to wait to find out, with Fast X‘s release now just over three months away.
