Flash Season 8 Photos Reveal Barry Allen in New Reverse-Flash Costume

New photos from The Flash season 8 reveal a new costume for Barry Allen as Reverse-Flash. Reverse-Flash is a character who has appeared on the show since season 1, when he was the Big Bad. Known as Eobard Thawne, he is a descendant of Iris West’s former fiancé Eddie who traveled back in time to torment The Flash and his friends. He was originally a fan of Barry Allen, but when he developed his own super-speed, he discovered his destiny to be The Flash’s opposite in every way. In the current timeline, he has taken on the appearance of Harrison Wells, the character played by Tom Cavanagh.

The Flash season 8 is opening with a 5-part crossover event called “Armageddon,” which includes appearances from Black Lightning and Supergirl‘s Dr. Alex Danvers. The fourth part will premiere on The CW on December 7, following up on the previous episode’s major cliffhanger. Following the many alternate dimension shenanigans of the previous three episodes, Barry Allen has now found himself in a reality where Iris West is marrying Eobard.

The CW has released new photos that would seem to tease that Eobard is The Flash in this reality, making Barry the Reverse-Flash. Barry’s new outfit is a more literal interpretation of being the opposite of The Flash than Tom Cavanagh’s outfit from previous seasons. Rather than featuring the metallic, futuristic motif, Barry’s costume is more like his typical costume in terms of texture, only with a reversed color scheme. Check out the full-size images below:

According to the show’s official synopsis, the next episode will feature Team Flash beginning an epic battle with Reverse-Flash that will likely carry over into the fifth and final part of “Armageddon.” This episode will also feature Barry getting advice from Damien Darhk, though his assistance comes at a price. This will be the first time Neal McDonough has starred on The Flash as Dahrk since his initial appearance in 2015.

The Flash knows how to have fun with mixing up the core dynamics of its cast, especially when it comes to the Arrowverse’s big crossover events. The series has been able to harness the elasticity and fun that comes with the multiple timelines and universes of the comics, and it’s certainly looking like it will gear up to deliver an exciting final two episodes to this seventh annual crossover. It is currently unknown how this situation will resolve, but it will certainly put Barry through the wringer before he has any chance of success.
