Genshin Impact 3.0 Release Date: When The Next Big Update Could Arrive

Genshin Impact 3.0 will be the next major update to the game when it releases, bringing the Sumeru region and new characters to the popular RPG.

Despite getting big updates every six weeks, Genshin Impact 3.0 will be the next major content patch coming to the free-to-play RPG. The Version 2.6 update will be arriving at the end of March, but a number of leaks have pointed to at least two more patches arriving as part of the Inazuma run. As with any leaks and rumors, accuracy is up for debate. So, when should players expect to see a Genshin Impact 3.0 release date?

Genshin Impact Version 2.6 will introduce new events, a new playable character in Kamisato Ayato, and take Travelers into The Chasm. The usual new weapons and Artifacts will also be added in. However, many fans are looking ahead to the next update, and it’s possible Genshin Impact 3.0 could be coming sooner than previously thought.

The next update is adding the “Spices of the West” event, where a character from Sumeru will task players with cooking-related challenges. Sumeru is the new nation expected for Genshin Impact 3.0, and despite NPCs from the nation being in the game already, this event could be an early tease for Sumeru and what’s in store for Travelers when the 3.0 update releases. This is similar to how Inazuma characters were teased prior to Version 2.0’s release, and it could also be hinting at Genshin Impact 3.0’s release date coming soon.

Will Genshin Impact 3.0 Release After Version 2.6

Leaks online, like this one from SaveYourPrimos on Twitter, have pointed at characters being added to Version 2.7 and 2.8, so given the typical six-week schedule for updates, that means 3.0 won’t appear until at least August 2022. However, early signs are already pointing to Genshin Impact 3.0 coming even sooner. It’s important to remember that prior to 2.0, leakers were referring to the update after 1.6 as 1.7. However, 1.7 didn’t exist – instead, 1.7 turned into Genshin Impact 2.0. It’s possible something similar will happen with the next update, putting Genshin Impact 3.0’s release date as May 11, 2022 – just slightly earlier than 2.0’s July release in 2021. Or 2.8 could become 3.0, meaning the release date would be June 22, 2022.

Another sign that this could be the case is that the official Genshin Impact social media accounts haven’t teased characters for the next update yet. Recently, new character teases, like the one for Kamisato Ayato, show up on the day of Special Program livestreams or soon after. The 2.6 livestream occurred on March 18, and almost a full week later, there still hasn’t been a sign of which characters are playable next. It could be that the next update’s characters are from Sumeru, a major spoiler, and that’s why there haven’t been teases on social media yet. If these are Sumeru characters, then it’s likely Genshin Impact 3.0 will be the next update. Regardless, players should expect the next major update with Sumeru to happen sometime within the next few months – and no later than August 3, 2022.
