Genshin Impact is recasting Tighnari’s voice actor after the original actor is fired for abuse allegations.

Genshin Impact‘s Tighnari is getting a new English voice actor following the decision from HoYoverse to fire the original actor amidst abuse allegations. Tighnari was one of the first new characters of the Sumeru region and is a visible element of much of that region’s main narrative.
Tighnari in Genshin Impact‘s English voiceovers was a role formerly assigned to Elliot Gindi, who has now been removed from the job following what HoYoverse is calling a “breach of contract.” The voice actor was the subject of many abuse allegations posted on Twitter in a comprehensive and unsettling document, which illustrated a long history of inappropriate behavior with fans – some of whom were reportedly underage.
Genshin Impact‘s official Twitter account broke the news yesterday that it was terminating its contract with Gindi and will be replacing him gradually.
How Genshin Impact Will Replace Tighnari’s English Voice Actor
Following the initial abuse allegations, Gindi corroborated in an apology that the screenshots in the document were real. A week later, HoYoverse’s official Genshin Impact Twitter officially announced the company’s plans to move on from the voice actor. According to the tweet, a new Tighnari English voice actor is being sought already, with initial talks with the voice recording agency ongoing. The team plans to gradually phase out Tighnari’s existing in-game voice lines, and will apparently keep players posted by issuing updates via announcements.
HoYoverse’s swift action has already been applauded by many of the game’s players. The hurt felt by so many fans because of the actions of Gindi meant that his role in Genshin Impact would be a shadow cast over the game’s world, which aims to be an escape for many through its storytelling and character relationships. Voice-over actors and players alike have replied to the official tweet with words of support and thanks.
Whoever takes over the role of Tighnari in Genshin Impact‘s English voiceovers will have a difficult task, but one that’s worthwhile. As the Genshin Impact community heals and moves on, reclaiming the English version of Tighnari as a character that only represents his role in-game will be a powerful moment.
