Guardians Of The Galaxy Game: Who Cosmo The Spacedog Is

[ad_1]

The upcoming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game will feature plenty of iconic characters from the Marvel franchise, including Cosmo the Spacedog.

Square Enix revealed its upcoming game, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, at this year’s E3 Expo, and the trailer featured a look at several familiar faces from across the series. One of the characters that briefly cameoed in the reveal was Cosmo the Spacedog, a canine cosmonaut from the comics who also briefly appeared in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy films. Who exactly is this character, and how does he fit into the game?

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be set in its own standalone universe, pulling inspiration from both the MCU films and the Marvel comics. To that end, it’s hard to know exactly how similar some of its featured characters will be compared to their counterparts. The game’s version of Peter Quill, for example, is an ’80s kid rather than being from the ’70s, and Gamora’s backstory aligns more closely with the comics as opposed to the movies. There are also several visual distinctions between the game and movie characters.

Cosmo was first created in the early 2000s and has since appeared in various other video games, television series, and even films. In most iterations, he appears as a Golden Retriever–Labrador Retriever mix. from what’s been shown so far, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game doesn’t seem to change this visually.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Game Who Cosmo The Spacedog Is Knowhere

In the comics, Marvel’s Cosmo the Spacedog originally started out as a test animal for the Soviet space program and was launched into orbit from Earth before drifting into space and ending up at Knowhere. On the way, he was subjected to genetic mutation from cosmic rays. This provided him with psionic abilities, including telepathic communication, the ability to conjure mind blasts and shields, and telekinesis. Given his ability to talk with humanoid characters, it seems probable that Cosmo could serve as a prominent and recurring NPC within Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, particularly given how much of the reveal trailer seemed to focus on his home base of Knowhere, where he serves as security chief.

Although Cosmo has worked with various comic characters, his relationship with the Guardians of the Galaxy is something of a coordinator, helping them set up base in Knowhere and alerting them of troubles throughout the universe or even directly teaming up with them in some cases. It seems as though he could act as a quest-giver in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, providing players with missions to undertake throughout the game.

He could otherwise have some sort of support role, whether it be in combat against the many villains in the Guardians of the Galaxy game, or at the Guardians’ home base. Although, little is currently known about the specifics of the game’s mechanics beyond the footage shown thus far. More details, including information about Cosmo’s role in the game, will likely be revealed as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s release date approaches.
