Players are losing their minds over a sneaky puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy, trying to persuade players to do a bit of math in order to get to the loot. How dare they! These doors differ from the locked doors that can be opened with the Alohomora spell.

Once players understand the basics of these doors the rest of them should be a breeze. Make sure to use the Revelio spell to easily spot the silhouette of the door and the locks as well as any hidden treasures behind them!

Hogwarts Legacy Puzzle Doors Explained

The locked doors that require solving a puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy are also known as Arithmancy Doors. These require students to do a little math to figure them out, hence why they’ve been given a portmanteau of Arithmetic and maybe… Necromancy? The math puzzle is actually quite simple once understood, and it’s not necessary to see the solution for every door one comes across. It’s just some simple basics algebra, yay!

How To Answer Hogwarts Legacy Math Doors

The math doors actually have a guide to them found within the game itself. Players can take the Divination Classroom Floo Flame Located in the Library Annex, turn around, and head into the wooden rafters of the Central Hall. There is an Arithmancy Door at the end of the hall with a blackboard, surrounded by books. There is also a chest on a bench that when interacted with, this note shows the values of the symbols. It can be accessed in the player’s inventory in the game menu.

Players must then use the value of the symbols to solve the equation.

The total value of the big number in the center is equal to the sum of the outer number plus the symbol plus the unknown number indicated by ? or ??. The ? and ?? are the two locks that can be interacted with to rotate between the symbols associated with the door. Once the two locks show the correct symbol, the door is unlocked and can be interacted with now to be opened.

What’s Behind The Math Puzzle Symbol Doors

Players who solve the math puzzle will typically see a chest or two behind these doors. Most offer a bit of gold in one and gear upgrades or collectible equipment cosmetics in another. With the exception of the Arithmancy Classroom Field Guide Page behind the initial door here, we aren’t currently aware of any other field guide pages, or demiguise statues found within the rooms of these special doors
