Hogwarts Legacy: How To Unlock Imperio
The Unforgiveable Curse Imperio in Hogwarts Legacy gives players a new ally through dark magic, giving them a strong advantage in combat encounters.
One of the three Unforgivable Curses found within Hogwarts Legacy is the Imperius Curse, or Imperio, that gives players the dark opportunity to manipulate a being’s mind and influence their actions when they unlock such a taboo art. Using Imperio causes an enemy to temporarily be enthralled by the player, fighting along their side as if they were a companion and taking reduced damage from other enemies to prolong their affinity. Since cursed enemies take extra damage as well, players essentially have a pawn at their side that becomes easily disposable as they strike through more foes on the path to becoming a master of dark magics.
The side quest “In the Shadow of Time” must be completed as players build their relationship with the Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow over the course of the main narrative. The three Curses all follow this character, but become available very late into the story once players have accumulated enough levels to access specific missions. Imperio remains the second Unforgivable Curse obtained throughout these side quests, right after Crucio in Hogwarts Legacy.
Unlocking the Imperius Curse (Imperio) in Hogwarts Legacy
As seen in a video by content creator Deltia’s Gaming, using the Floo Flame fast travel system will see players visit Feldcroft Catacomb outside Hogwarts for the particular side quest involving Imperio. A certain object lies in wait within this tomb past a couple of puzzles that aid in Sebastian’s efforts, all of which contribute to the player learning this deadly spell in Hogwarts Legacy.
As players enter the Catacombs, minor fights with spider enemies impede progress toward a central dais in a room with scattered skeletal bones. Building up several barricades of bone through the Accio spell clears the path forward, prompting Sebastian to suggest using Imperio. Players unlock the spell through the following dialogue option, simply asking if they are willing to delve deeper into the knowledge behind the three Curses. Selecting “Yes” adds Imperio to the player’s repertoire, which is immediately tested through another spider attack.
Players can upgrade the Imperio curse so that when used, it distributes the curse condition to additional enemies it strikes.
Since cursed foes take extra damage, players can easily combine spells such as Glacius or Confringo to deal massive damage to singular targets while still having a forced companion on their side. While the path to unlock dark arts spells in Hogwarts Legacy arrives later in the narrative, Imperio certainly provides one of the strongest, albeit morally dubious, pieces of magic in the game.
