How Fear The Walking Dead Gets Around Walking Dead’s Naked Zombie Problem

[ad_1]

Depicting naked zombies has long been an issue for The Walking Dead, but Fear the Walking Dead just found a proper fix for the problem.

Fear the Walking Dead has found a working solution for the franchise’s naked zombie problem. Obviously, showing breasts or genitals is off-limits for the AMC series, but some still consider the absence of nude walkers in any of the Walking Dead shows a bit unrealistic. It’s a criticism that’s based on the idea that there had to be some people who turned while naked or had their clothes torn off while wandering around as zombies.

Because The Walking Dead avoided them for so long, the introduction of the first nude walker received a considerable amount of attention when it showed up in a season 8 episode. The show handled it with strategic camera angles and large bite marks that covered up certain areas. By going this route, The Walking Dead was able to dance around showing anything that would have made it a problem for AMC. Even so, it was met with some complaints, as the zombie was somewhat difficult to spot in the episode and was actually missed by a number of viewers.

The franchise took another stab at the concept in the Fear the Walking Dead season 7 premiere, which showed a naked zombie stand up and attack Will (Gus Halper). This time, though, there was no need for out-of-focus or far-off camera shots. After a full, revealing look at the zombie from the back, Fear the Walking Dead wasn’t shy about providing a close-up, full-frontal shot at the naked walker as it lumbered toward Will. However, this didn’t classify as adult content that AMC couldn’t show since the zombie’s body was so badly warped by the nuclear blasts from the season 6 finale. Nearly all of the zombie’s features were horribly melted away.

The nuclear apocalypse caused by Teddy (John Glover) has made it possible for Fear the Walking Dead to easily get around the naked zombie problem in ways that The Walking Dead never could. And, it looks like this sort of occurrence may become common in season 7. Since this is the new status quo for the show, other zombies are sure to have been similarly disfigured by the nuclear explosions and radiation. Plus, the Stalkers mentioned by Will appear to be a new villain group for the series. Whoever they are, stripping zombies of their clothes is confirmed to be part of their modus operandi, which is why Fear the Walking Dead’s characters are bound to run into more as the story progresses.

This show’s ability to sidestep this old TWD issue is just one of many ways that the nuclear apocalypse has redefined Fear The Walking Dead and its world. Navigating through and around irradiated zones, traversing through destroyed cities, the different kinds of zombies they could encounter, and the new rules for survival are all part of the new reality that the characters must deal with in season 7. All things considered, the franchise now has all sorts of interesting opportunities available to them that may not have been feasible beforehand.
