How Poppy Playtime’s PJ Pug-A-Pillar Could Still Be Alive In Chapter 3

Poppy Playtime’s PJ Pug-A-Pillar’s corpse is not seen amongst his friends at the end of Chapter 2, suggesting that PJ may be alive and may return.

Among the new toys introduced in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, PJ Pug-A-Pillar is likely the only one to survive his encounters with both the player and Mommy Long Legs, and he could return in Chapter 3. Poppy Playtime likes to hide small details relating to its history and lore in small details littered about its horrific environments and this is no exception. Poppy Playtime‘s fan community is eager for more, it is not a surprise keen players have discovered that PJ is very likely still alive.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 follows the player as they continue their attempt to escape the Playtime Co. factory. Along the way, they are challenged by the murderous Mommy Long Legs and her cohort of equally murderous friends, PJ Pug-A-Pillar, Bunzo Bunny, and the Mini Huggies, to a gauntlet of deadly games. As the player succeeds in each game, Mommy Long Legs appears to murder the toy in charge of the game and string up their corpse in the Game Station area. All except PJ Pug-A-Pillar, whose corpse is inexplicably missing in the Game Station.

While it may very well be PJ is dead and will not return, the lack of any visual confirmation of PJ’s death suggests he may still be alive and there is some evidence to support this. The developers of Poppy Playtime often use of details to convey the story of the game and hint at what is to come. Thus this oversight is likely not coincidental, suggesting that PJ may return for Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 alongside other terrifying monsters.

Poppy Playtime’s PJ Pug-A-Pillar Was Not Killed By Mommy Long Legs

As stated, the lack of a visible corpse is a compelling reason to suggest PJ may yet live. Both Bunzo and the Mini Huggies are strung out for their failure to kill the player but PJ’s corpse is not seen among them. Additionally, both Bunzo and the Mini Huggies have a “Mommy Kills X” audio file within the game’s logs which plays just after the player leaves their respective areas. PJ is the only toy to lack this audio file, suggesting that the developers did not intend for PJ to die. This would not be the first time a hack reveals hidden Poppy Playtime secrets.

Mommy Long Legs may never have gotten the chance to end PJ Pug-A-Pillar, as she was too busy chasing the recently-escaped player. Based on her dialogue at the end of the Statues game, Mommy may have intended for the player to die during the game. The normal way out was blocked, forcing the player to break through into a control room. Mommy notes that this is “cheating” and personally comes to end the player herself, perhaps saving PJ’s life in the process. Perhaps PJ was just a fortunate soul, spared by Mommy’s hatred for the player. This could permit PJ to return in Chapter 3, perhaps even in gratitude which would be refreshing given Poppy’s descent into the dark side.

Given that the Poppy Playtime developers have a tendency to put in small details to allude to bigger things within their chapters, this is an indication that PJ is likely still alive. This means that PJ could be a returning character for future chapters though in what capacity is yet to be seen. Likely, he will be another antagonist as he was in Chapter 2 but the circumstances he survived could allow for some nuance in his character. Future Poppy Playtime chapters still have the chance to bring PJ Pug-A-Pillar back.
