Kelsey Grammer explains how seeing Roseanne Barr revive Roseanne fully convinced him to finally revisit his own iconic sitcom, Frasier.

Kelsey Grammer reveals how seeing the Roseanne revival convinced him to also push to bring back Frasier. The snooty psychiatrist-turned-radio host is returning on the small screen with a Paramount+ reboot. The project had been in development for a while but is now currently filming.

In a new interview with The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, Grammer explains how Roseanne Barr returning to her classic sitcom paved the way for the Frasier revival.

As Grammer said the Frasier revival which is now filming, he realized that there’s potential for his character to return after Barr and the rest of the Roseanne crew successfully staged the Conner family’s comeback. Granted that the Roseanne continuation was eventually axed and replaced by The Conners, but it was the push Grammer needed to work on the Frasier reboot.

It was actually when Roseanne got her show back on, I thought to myself, “Well, you know, Frasier’s kind of interesting. We could maybe play him again.”

What To Expect From The Frasier Reboot

While the specifics of the Frasier reboot are still uncertain, there are some key details that have already been released about the much-anticipated revival. That includes the confirmation that both Frasier’s son, and his nephew, the son of Niles and Daphne, will be a part of the show. The Paramount+ project will also include the debut of Frasier’s long-time friend played by Nicholas Lyndhurst. Sadly, no one from the original show will be a series regular, but guest appearances have not been ruled out.

The Frasier reboot will also see Frasier return to Boston — the setting of Cheers where the public was first introduced to the character. No word has been said about potential cameos for Frasier’s old pub-mates like Sam, Carla, Norm, Woody, and Cliff, but considering that all of them made separate appearances in the old show, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that they are all willing to partake in the Paramount+ endeavor. Similarly, it’s unknown if Lilith will be involved, but there’s a good chance that she will be given Freddy’s appearance.

Dubbed the third act of Frasier’s life, the upcoming reboot is expected to focus on his relationship with his son. This mirrors how the NBC sitcom delved into his dynamic with his father, Martin, who is now gone. Admittedly, not having Niles in the Frasier reboot is a disappointment considering how engaging their relationship was, but David Hyde Pierce’s absence allows other aspects of Frasier’s life to be focused on.
