Jonathan Majors Scores Rare Box Office Record With Ant-Man 3 & Creed 3

Jonathan Majors, who stars in both Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III, accomplished a rare box office record this weekend.

Jonathan Majors has accomplished an exceedingly rare box office record this weekend. The actor plays the villain Kang in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which premiered in theaters on February 17 and held the No. 1 slot for two weeks. However, he also appears opposite MCU alum Michael B. Jordan in the boxing sequel Creed III, which opened at No. 1 this weekend with the highest opening gross for any sports film in domestic history.

On Twitter, Fandango and Rotten TomatoesErik Davis pointed out the fact that Majors held a lead role in two consecutive No. 1 films now that Creed III has taken the throne from Ant-Man 3.

This feat is so rare that records are foggy on how many people have even held this honor, though Majors is certainly the first person in the past five years to accomplish it. This back-to-back triumph is likely due in small part to the release date delays of Ant-Man as well as the fact that he is not the marquee star of either film (Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Jordan as Adonis Creed respectively would have been considered the primary box office draw for each film).

Jonathan Majors is One of Hollywood’s Biggest Rising Stars

Although it seems like Majors’ rise to the A-list has occurred overnight, the actor has been appearing in progressively larger projects over the last few years. He originally drew attention for his roles in smaller films including White Boy Rick and The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Then the star had a banner year in 2020 with roles in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and the HBO series Lovecraft Country.

After that, Majors made his first Marvel appearance in the finale of Loki season 1. His character He Who Remains was a variant of Kang, the new lead villain of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. While that gig will keep him busy for quite some time as Phases 5 and 6 lead into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Majors has other upcoming projects that will likely help propel his career even further into the stratosphere.

One of Jonathan Majors‘ smaller upcoming projects will be The Man in My Basement, a drama where he’ll show off his chops opposite Willem Dafoe. He is also rumored to be playing Dennis Rodman in the biographical drama 48 Hours in Vegas. Between indie performances and franchise successes, the actor will continue to conquer every corner of Hollywood.
