Jurassic World Dominion Creates A Major Problem For Future Jurassic Movies

[ad_1]

Jurassic World Dominion was super financially successful, but the story also makes any future Jurassic Park films incredibly hard to pull off.

Jurassic World Dominion may be the finale of the second Jurassic Park trilogy, but the film sets up a major problem for future installments in the franchise. Jurassic World Dominion makes some pretty significant changes to the Jurassic Park universe, adding exciting new elements that haven’t been seen before. However, one of these new Jurassic World Dominion ideas actually breaks any story that a future Jurassic Park sequel could tell.

Jurassic World Dominion wraps up the Jurassic World trilogy, which follows Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, as well as some Jurassic Park legacy characters including Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm. Although the marketing presented Jurassic World Dominion as the last one, there have been rumblings of future Jurassic Park movies. Jurassic World Dominion made over $1 billion, and with director Colin Trevorrow discussing stories for future sequels, another Jurassic Park movie seems inevitable. However, due to the story of Jurassic World Dominion, it may also be impossible.

Dinosaurs & Humans Co-Existing Breaks The Jurassic Park Formula

Jurassic World Dominion‘s story sets up that humans and dinosaurs are now co-existing, with the dinosaurs having broken out in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World Dominion is set only four years after the previous film, but it has already shown how humans and dinosaurs have adapted to co-exist. While this is an interesting idea, it goes against the original Jurassic Park formula. All six Jurassic Park movies so far have been about the conflicts between dinosaurs and humans, something that can’t happen if they co-exist peacefully.

Now that dinosaurs roam the planet in Jurassic World Dominion, humans have had to adapt to handle the invasive species. The film shows that new protections and regulations have been passed in order to deal with dinosaurs, with the government’s DFW branch even taking down dangerous dinosaurs. As time goes on, humans will get even better at this. So, if any dinosaurs break out (as has happened in nearly every Jurassic Park movie), it shouldn’t be as big of a problem anymore. This prevents old Jurassic Park stories from being viable anymore, meaning future sequels will have to make some serious changes.

How The Future Jurassic World Movies Can Succeed

While the next movie in the franchise can’t rely on old story formulas, it has set up future storylines that can allow it to succeed. Director Collin Trevorrow has said that Jurassic World Dominionchange[s] the DNA of the franchise,” with his plans for future sequels relying on the coexisting stories that the third Jurassic World sets up. Future movies could succeed by focusing on this worldbuilding, possibly focusing on dinosaur traffickers or members of the DFW’s dinosaur hunting squad.

Jurassic World Dominion seems to be the end of many legacy characters’ involvement with the franchise; even Pratt and Howard haven’t spoken about their interest in future films. This makes the next Jurassic Park movie the perfect opportunity to breathe new life into the franchise, departing from the repetitive stories of the first two trilogies. Jurassic World Dominion may break the formula of old Jurassic Park stories, but it sets up many potential new ones.
